BOTA tarot cards

Did anyone experienced the BOTA tarot cards?! These cards are a noncoloured variant of the deck Rider-Waite and I am now thinking to buy a deck from Amazon and then colour it myself. I have now 2 decks, one is completly blunt, I cannot see anything in those cards (and they say they are for beginners) and the other one is a robin wood deck, which speacks to me quite good.
I want also a Rider deck but the colours on the original seems so vague. For me, the colors are very important, that is why I am thinking of colouring my own deck. Any insights?

Welcome to the Aeclectic Tarot family, daphne! I hope you will find the site as fascinating, informative, and exciting as we all do here, *vbs*

***********************************

First, I would suggest that you buy the deck at the 'BOTA' website. In so doing, you will support the site and their efforts at disseminating the valuable information garnered by Dr. Case. You can either get just the 'Major Arcana', or both 'Major and Minor Arcana' in a full deck.

Cards: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/bota/

Website: http://store.bota.org/tarotdecks.html

I think you will find it extremely helpful to colour your own cards as the very act of colouring will more deeply imprint the symbology in your mind.

I would also strongly suggest that you purchase the following book, (by Dr. Paul Foster Case), to go along with the deck:

'Tarot Card Meanings: Fundamentals': http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/IS...sim/aeclectic/

This book is a wealth of information on Tarot symbology and colour correspondences, and gives instructions for colouring the deck as well.

The 'BOTA' deck is the one I use for my personal pathway. I do not use it to read for others.

If you want a more vibrant Rider-Waite, you may want to take a look at the 'Radiant Rider-Waite' deck:

p.s. I see that you're in Romania... here is a link to the European Headquarters of BOTA:

Thank you for your very informative message. I was thinking at the Radian verssion too, but I have to choose between BOTA and radiant, I cannot get both of them. Bota souns more tempting but I would not colour them folowwing some book-indication, but following my own artistic view, I dont see the meaning of colouring by indications, that is why I buy it in the fisrt intent, to make it my own with my own colours. I already know a lot about symbols and caballa & tarot, fascinating indeed.

If it came to books, I am at this moment more interested in finding a book that gives the interpretation of each card in every sector of life. Usually when refers to pentacles, for instance, one sais is about money and business matters but what if I get pentacles in a love reading. I would like to understand the meaning of each card in each and every aspect of life. Maybe you have an idea about the book that goes over the standard interpretations and extend their meanings.

Thanks!

Hi, daphne, and welcome!

Have you checked this deck?
http://tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=124855
It's colorful and it's easily available in Bucharest. It also has a rather comprehensive book for beginners.

Good luck!

Thanks Iard,

But I am not looking for a book for beginers, but rather for a more indeapth one, explaining the meaning of a card in various circumstances.

The book I told you before has 200+ pages... have you seen it?

That would be the "Tarotul de Marsilia" that you can find here

No, I am not familiar with that book. But I am a little over the introductory meanings of the cards, that is why I told you I would like some more extended interpretations, not necessary entering in freudian/cabalistic theories, but more into how a specific card reflects the reality of other areas of life then those usually ddicated for.

Just a passing thought from one who coloured a BOTA - when you colour yours, use coloured pencils NOT coloured pens... Felt-tips bleed on the cards and also sink in unevenly, so the effect is not what you might wish. I had to buy myself a new deck after I got over the shock....

Wow...and I was thinking to use water-based colours, to paint them...Better stick with pencils, he? But then the colours are not so vivid. What would you say use the fluorescent markers?

The stock may have improved since I did them in the 1980s - but if not I would avoid any sort of marker. Watercolours - I have no idea; I don't use them but would think as they are kind of SUPPOSED to bleed a bit, they might be better. Markers are rather - sort of aggressive ! My handbook, I have to say, recommended coloured pencils. See what the current advice that comes with the deck is, I guess....
