I think the Kabbalah tree of life IMHO seems to be a yantra rather than an image of the inner energy system (which one can experience in meditation or clairvoyantly). Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's a conceptualization. Here's some interesting information on yantras:

In this link we see how the Star of David comes from a much older system of sacred geometry.

Yantras are also vibrationally linked to energy such as sound waves (but also thought waves)...

What makes it "magical" is simply by connecting with or aligning yourself with that which is sacred (sacred geometry is only one of many ways) you amplify your power of intention to receive/manifest whatever you desire. It's an old tried and true formula.

Hi,

Yes Vishuddha is a very pure, creative, and immensely open chakra—note the 16 vowels thereon which all equal 0 (vowels always connote creative openess, of speech too). I attribute it very much to green and the universal goddess (I associate D = 4 = Venus to it, which is also the vesica). The communication you mention as the throat chakra is interesting in light of Binah being silence and understanding, the "voice in the silence," which parallels Anahata as the "unstruck sound." These are obviously symbolic aspects of gnosis vibrating deep within the Self.

I love the Sri yantra too, and have created a few large canvases depicting it. I have one up here:
