Marseille Cat Tarot from Lo Scarabeo

HudsonGray

Yes, another cat deck is hitting the market. It's being released May of 2014.

I have to post the Llewellyn site for the images, I haven't been able to connect to the Lo Scarabeo site for a few days, they have issues going on with their connections I think.

A few pictures are shown on the web page, but none of the Minor Arcana are pictured. Even googling images didn't get me much more than two additional cards shown.

Looks to be $23 pre-ordered.

I already have it. It's in the shops here...I came across it last week...

Charming, predictable, not strictly Marseilles in that the cards have scenic RWS clues. :)

But a fun deck to have.

ETA; took a fuzzy photo in the fading light - not great - but just a random selection of minors for you to get an idea!

I just don't get the whole fascination with cats, but then I'm a birdwatcher and allergic to cats. But the deck is well executed. I will always prefer something with clean lines over wispy / watercolor look.

Would love to see something like this done with birds, a la medieval haggadahs which featured birds in human clothing to get around the alleged biblical injunction against portraiture.

Yeah, I'll be getting another cat deck . . . Even though I already have the charming majors-only Chat du Marseille http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/chat-du-marseille/

Thanks for posting the minors. I like the pip-style cards with smaller scenic vingnettes, which are adorable in another cat deck, the Medieval Cats. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/medieval-cat/ (See, the cat ate the canary! Others in this deck are more RWS-like.)

And similar to Robert Place's minor style, especially Tarot of the Saints. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/tarot-of-the-saints/

I like that merging of RW and Marseille too. It helps give depth. Thanks for posting the picture.

So the deck is out now instead of us waiting till May? Neat.

This looks cute! Right now I only have one deck (Pagan Cats), but this would make an excellent way to expand my collection.

WANT.

This is awesome. I'll have to pick up a copy eventually.

Obsydian

I almost want it but I wouldn't be able to read well with it without big scenic minors. :(

LOVE DESE CATS, but I have a question of all!

Would it be tarot blasphemy to outright ignore the kitties in the pips??

This could extend to being a question for its own thread--"should you actively ignore any part of a card in reading it?"

Robert Place's Vampire Tarot is another example of a deck that has unillustrated pips...with an illustration included in each card. :p Is this type of composition meant to be for those who like either/or approach? It's interesting for me to work with decks that very boldly take both roads instead of one or the other.

In any case, just a question I was curious about :) I haven't been actively doing this, but I've been tempted. I bought the deck mainly because I love TdMs, but also love decks that aren't too heavily human-centric. This combined that. The cats included in the pips are interesting to work with, but I do wish a bit more freedom was allotted. Thanks for any personal opinions or feedback on this!

Ordered this last week in honor of my 18 year old kitty that had to be put down. She's been with my mom because my house needs work, so I'm sad. :( Not a cat deck person as a rule, but this looks really nice. That magician almost seems like it should be a huge poster on a wall!
