Herbal Tarot - Ace of Cups - Lotus

You can see the minor arcana cards in Constellation 1.

Description: A hand is reaching out from a cloud while holding a large cup with ribbons hanging down and dripping water onto a large lotus flower. The lotus flower, leaves, and seeds are in a large body of water. A white dove is bringing a sprig of some plant to the cup. The sun is seen providing a “cone” effect to the cup. There are mountains in the distance.

Significant Details: The lotus flower symbolizes purity, creation, and spirit. The cup signifies the containing of emotions. The ribbons represent gifts being opened. The dove is a tradition symbol of peace, love, and spiritual issues. The mountains are the gateways to the spirit realm.

Keywords: Intuition, Intense emotions, Overflowing Love or Creativity

Medicinal Uses: Lotus is said to be helpful in heart and liver disorders, and is prescribed for mushroom poisoning. The leaves are used to treat sun stroke, dysentery, fever and vomiting blood. Lotus seeds are used as an astringent and are used to cure kidney, spleen, and heart related diseases. They are also used to treat weak sexual function in men and leukorrhea in women. They are also used in curing diseases like restlessness, palpitation and insomnia. There is green embryo inside the lotus seeds which is said to cure heart disorders.

My Interpretation: This is a time of new beginnings that will leave you feeling happy and content. Your emotions may be running high at this time. You may feel a need to study a new area of spirituality during this time. This may be a peaceful time for you.

Number Significance: 1 - The self, ego, will, singularity of purpose. The Aces are in Constellation 1 with I Magician, X Medicine Wheel, XIX Sun, and the Tens. 1 – Communication; Self consciousness; Individualization; Self-expression; Initiative; At-one-ment; Originality.

Thoughts/Points to Ponder: The Ace of Cups is ruled by Pure Water. The Lotus flower flourishes in shallow ponds and near the edges of larger bodies of water. It grows up from the soil, through water, and then into the air. In this way, the flower, metaphorically as well as literally, connects the three spheres of earthly existence- land, sea, sky- and embraces the metaphorical associations attributed to each. They open and close in perfect harmony with the ebb and flow of the sun. The lotus, as such, acts as a symbolic tie which demonstrates the continuous interdependence and unity of all things – a string by which everything is metaphorically tied. ~ Vagabond Journey.
