A question about this deck

naiadsandthewater

Hello!

I recentely purchased this deck: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/lenormand-blue-owl/
and it's gorgeous and all. But I was wondering about the poetic verses and if they interfere with the cards and the reading---I know this is sounding really silly, but I can just ignore the verses and read normally, right?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm a little scared that when I read for other people, they'll see the verses and let it get to them and then doubt what I say. For example, the bear can be good sometimes, the bear can even mean strength or someone who is overprotective and all the verse on the card says is that there's envy and all that. I know that shouldn't matter to a professional reader but I've had bad experiences with some clients (I think we all have, right?)

The verses are pretty bad. They're meant to be both verse and some of the instructions from the PL Sheet (find it here: http://gameofhopelenormand.bigcartel.com/philippe-le-normand-lwb ), which is the earliest instruction sheet on how to read the cards.

I'd tend to ignore the verses, especially in English, as they're pretty bad as verse, and pretty confusing as instruction, though if you look at the sheet, you might see what they were aiming for, at least. The PL Sheet - don't ignore that! at least if you're trying to read traditionally.

Ah, thank you so much!

Yes, the verses are horrible and so...cheesy. The PL Sheet really helps, though. Thank you! :)

I have the version with the playing card insets which are apparently a holdover from original game before it became a divination medium. The card insets are double duty to use in other games. Any cartomancy meanings with standard decks apparently don't match up either. I tend to ignore them as I would with the verse version. I do have a deck without insets and initially gravitated to them but pretty much use the three decks I have (two with card insets) equally. I guess I view it as a quaint remnant of its early inception.
