The Compass Spread (a work in progress)

Chronata

Last night, a friend needed some direction in her life, and so I decided to lay out 4 tarot cards (along with four oracle cards) in the cardinal directions to see if something might come up that would give her some answers on where she should go in her life.

**1**
*3**4
**2**

1 North
2 South
3 West
4. East

She was at a new place in her life...many things were changing and dying, and she didn't know what she should do...what her passion was, what to pursue, or what to hang onto.

The spread seemed like something that might work , and even though the oracle cards were much clearer than the tarot, we talked through what each direction could mean...

North...the Earthy realm, so things that were already solid/stable, and also ways to make money
Also, we considered North to be the more liberal direction, and so it referred to the liberal opinions of others. Also North...as a directional focus, was where in the country she might consider pursuing things...the arrow on the compass always points up, so it felt like a future prediction or like an arrow saying "this way"

South...Fire realm, so passions, and inspirations. Also the conservative views and opinions of others.
When I asked her which direction she felt was "home" she replied South, so that was taken into consideration as well...as a foundation of where she came from, and what she brings with her into the future.

West...the west is traditionally Water and emotional stuff. Because it was the farthest on the left, it felt like things that she needed to let go of, to move forward...it kind of makes sense, in the emotional context.
It was the past, but also the Western world view of things, as it relates to jobs and directions (something she was asking about) so we took it as the traditional way of seeing careers and how it relates to western thinking... capitalist economy stuff.

The East represented Air and intellectual thinking, and how she was communicating her desires. It also was the direction that held the strongest message in the card combination...as to where she might go next.
The Eastern view was the idea of combing meditation practices with job hunting strategies, and balancing spirituality with the mundane to figure out the next phase.

So these were some ideas about what the directions could represent. But I feel there is more to this spread, and was hoping that others might like to add to the meanings behind the directions.
What do they mean to you?
