Decks You Wish You Hadn't Bought?

Is that why you collect ? I don't think about that stuff... I just amass. })
Yep. I Collect mainly for financial value. I amass my Collection to leave to my son and grandchildren as an Heirloom... something they can cash-in on if need be. So far, the only one in my family that cares for Tarot at all is my niece, and I've set aside some choice decks for her as an inheritance as well. But, to be frank, I want to leave a financial 'something' for my son.

Now, 'Cash is King' as they say, *lol*, but I also want my son and grandchildren to ponder my passion for Tarot... to get a feel for wacky, off-the-wall grandma and her hoo-doo, voo-doo ways!, *rofl*

But don't forget the Priapo. I didn't get that because I thought it was dreadful. By the time I wanted it it cost me SEVERAL bundles - though the guy I didn't buy it from in the first place quit stocking it as he couldn't shift them !
I'll have to look into this one... thanks for the recommendation. Alas, right now, I'm fairly put-off so-called erotic decks. They all appear to me to be more pornographic than erotic or sensual. Ah, well, the quest continues, *lol*. Maybe I should design one myself.

Thank you for saving me. Im not sure Id have bought it any time soon but thank you for saving me. I shall remember that explicit and totally unnecessary cheesiness forever...

However, I do think it is interesting to have in one's collection a totally disastrous, unlikeable catastrophe of a deck. I have one but Im not saying what it is. A deck to wheel out at dinner parties to show the extremes of tarot art to friends!
You're welcome! And... you're a braver soul than I! When a deck makes me shudder for its bad taste, well, it's just got to go! No way would I show it to anybody. I didn't even show this to my husband... indeed, I didn't even tell him about it... I just cringed, put it back in the box, and that was that, *lol*.

Another deck I regret buying is the Mystic Faerie. I don't think I will ever really connect with it. There are some nice cards there but most just seem childish to me. Now I know better :(

Miss Divine

Sensual Wicca

I was lucky to be able to look through a sample deck at a bookstore.
Otherwise I probably would have come home with one that day.
I agree with Fairemaiden...The deck is awful looking!

I'm not sure it's the best investment - I don't think people are getting as much for decks as they may have done even a year ago - and what is desirable today may not be tomorrow. I have a very extensive collection of Stevie Nicks memorabilia that was worth much more 15 years ago than it is now - fortunately I have no interest in selling it. I would imagine that investing in tarot cards would be just as volatile.

Indeed it is. Luckily I collect for love and fascination. Many of my decks are now alarmingly valuable - at the moment. One that was valuable for a while then stopped being. It all depends on the prevailing taste on the day you try and sell. One of my daughters gets the decks in the end (long story; they worked it out between them who gets what !!!) But no way am I assuming any particular worth to it all - and I have made damn sure she doesn't either ! You just can't.

Markets, like everything else in life, fluctuate. Since we're in an economic downturn right now, it's natural that the Market will not bear a decent ROI. But, the Wheel always turns. At some point, values will go up again. The trick is to sell when those values are at their highest. And, who knows, my son may not want to sell at all. Once I'm dead, he can do as he pleases with the Collection. I'm hoping that won't be for another 20-30 years tho! *lol*

Gregory... you underestimate the absolute value of your Collection. You can be modest all you want, but everyone here knows you have a Collection that, if sold/auctioned off at the right time, will bring in a good amount of moola... far, far more than what you spent in attaining it... especially as time marches on, *s*.

What's important here, I think, is that we Collect these things because we love Tarot, it is our passion... we love the concept of tarot, we love the artwork of tarot, and we love the enjoyment we get out of Collecting tarot. I think we see the inherent value in the artwork and the esoteric concepts attached to it. At least, I do.

I Collect other original works as well... art and books. Alas, I have no Rembrandt's, *lol*. However, it's my hunch that 'Tarot' will, one day, be taken far more seriously, (hence become far more valuable), on the world-market as an 'artform' than it is today, or ever has been.

It's a crap-shoot... but, then, what isn't?

In the meantime, I'm happy as a clam collecting and, if my son can make a few bucks out of it, all the better, *vbs*

Depends on how wise we made our choices.....I'm in a good position....

Mojo Twin 2

I have several but my biggest regret is buying the Shaman's Tarot by LS. I really don't know what I was thinking but this deck is pretty far removed from any shamanism that I'm familiar with.

Silver Crow

Animals Divine
Arcus Arcanum
Greenwood (sold it after I bought it right when it came out)
Thoth
Liber T

These are the ones that stand out at the moment.
