Does anyone know of this smaller Hanson Roberts?

karen0205

I found this funky little deck and don't really know anything about it except it's
a smaller version of the Hanson Roberts deck that comes in the box with the
window opening. Thats the deck that I have already.

This new little one is smaller than the original and has plain backs that were
printed with some advertising on it. The colors are darker too.
It's almost like a pocket version of the pocket version! I don't think the
one with the open window was really marketed as a pocket version but
it seems like it to me since it's smaller than most decks.
Has anyone seen anything like this before? It did not come with a box but
it did come with the LWB and it's the same one from US Games, 1985
as was in with the regular deck.

I've posted a picture of the regular and next to it the smaller one

Hi Karen it comes in a kit called TAROT TO GO.
It has a little hard cover book that comes with it.
You can find it at Barnes and Noble in that spinning display with all those little kits in it like...the Garden Gnome kit the Table Tennis kit...the Zen Garden kit etc...
The IBS is 978-0-88088-249-1
It's a really nice deck...I keep it in my purse.

The Tarot to Go cards are a little darker than the regular ones but I think they have regular blue backs.

As the others said, it seems like you are describing Tarot To Go, which is a small Hanson Roberts with a small price, too, but the backs of those are not an advertisement. They should look like the backs of the regular Hanson Roberts. I wonder if they are using the images without permission, or if it was granted to use as advertising.

I have one of the small Macromedia decks also (back matches your photo). Bought it online, so I don't know the real source.

Tarot To-Go Backs

The Tarot To Go backs are the same as the trditional backs. Possibly my favorite edition of the deck.

There's a copyright on the little one (on the opposite side)--what's that say?

It says 1984 US Games Systems, Inc.

Does the Tarot to Go deck have playing card symbols on it? This deck does.

They were used in some form of advertising but I was trying to find out if
anyone knew anything specific like why US Games might do that and if that
was something they did very often.

This is all I can find so far:

Rarely seen edition of the Hanson Roberts Tarot Deck.
Encyclopedia of Tarot, Vol.3, Pg.587:
"A custom version of the deck, not readily available, has identical art, but the cards are smaller than the readily available version. They are the size of standard bridge cards, 3 1/2 x 2 1/4 inches. The special deck has American (playing card) indices on the pips and on the Kings, Queens and Pages. The backs are blank so that the cards can be stamped with advertising logos or personal messages."

here's a scan of one of the cards

No, this deck looks to be a completely different editions.

It does to me too. I'm just curious about it. I wonder how many were made like this.
