SarahLikesPink: Been following the development of your deck & fascinated!
The style does not appear 'unschooled', but more of an individual & spontaneous approach (not always achieved by the more schooled sensibility). Like the colours & the tile/wood-cut look. Reminds me of the World Spirit, but different. & best of all: your cards speak!
The Fool, The Hierophant, The Lovers, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Hanged Man & The Devil strike as inspired takes on the more traditional imagery.
Specifically:
The Fool playing with fire a succinct allegory regarding the chances & risks one takes, such as along life's journey. A coiled snake instead of a dog a compelling reference to knowledge.
The Hierophant between two keys echoes The High Priestess as a bridge between two realms spiritual & mundane. Also reflects a duality not always obvious. Conveys the teacher aspect that dispels ignorance & imparts understanding.
The Lovers atop a tree alludes to the tree of knowledge & life, to which metaphorically all life springs from & intrinsically connected. The two tree branches flanking the sides reflective of duality & choice.
Wheel of Fortune a most original interpretation--& very effective in alluding to cycles & seasons. Perhaps that sense can be imparted to both The Moon & The Sun cards, with their images to echo the corresponding aspects of Wheel of Fortune.
Justice with an overhead sword on its side reflective of a level or balanced intellect & wisdom. Clarity & impartiality the hallmarks of Justice.
The Hanged Man with its two branches reminiscent of the tree of life. & suggestive of being subjected to circumstance or forces outside of one's control. The fallow period or suspension of exterior activity.
The Devil as a Master Puppeteer appropos in conveying that to which one may be prey. His position between two stark mountains again alludes to choices.
A fine job incorporating the most telling details for each card. Very interested in seeing more of your takes so please do keep us posted!
