5 decks to use for a year

journeyinghome

Journey Into Egypt and Tabula Mundi. That's more than enough to keep me occupied for a year! :D Who'd a thought it, me, a minimalist!

Oh, if I had to pick and pack five decks today it would probably be:

Tarot of the Sidhe
Smith-Waite Centennial
Japaridze
Druidcraft
Paulina

I think I'd go for a wide variety of decks that would see me through my quirks of mood and different reading needs.

That would be my criteria too.

1) Sidhe

2) Deviant Moon

3) Daniloff

4) Circo (once I get it! ;))

5) Illuminati

what if I loose one? can I add another deck for back up? (of course I can't but I will anyway :) Mystical cats

ETA Oh, and I forgot to add about 10 other decks...! I can't make it with just 5 years for a whole year!!! I like variety, I have to change them often or I get bored.
...but to be comfortable I'd need at least 20 decks for a year's fun!

FaintlyMacabre

Okay, what do I need to pack? I didn't like to be caught without something to do anywhere, even if I was just going for a day.

I would take:

MerryDay
Aquarian
Londa
Marseille or 2
Hoi Polloi
Crystal Tarot (I will learn to read with this)
Tarot for Cats so I can use all those majors only

and...what I want to work with, try out or see if it works

Victorian Fairy
Druidcraft (didn't give it a fair go)
Gill
Arthurian
Matthews Steampunk
Celtic
Norse
Swedish Witch
A Japanese one I want to fool around with

That should keep me busy for a year and if something just doesn't click, I have another one.

the thing is, I'd rather just take one and get to know it really, really well again.

For years I just had one, the Rider-Waite, and it didn't matter. It has layer upon layer.

then I had the Thoth, and spent huge amounts of time (years!) being a Thoth devotee.

Don't get me wrong, I love the diverse interpretations of the Tarot.
But choosing 5 for a mere year wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

This afternoon, if I suddenly had to pack my carpet bag, I'd be taking

Liber T of the Stars Eternal
Gypsy Palace
Le Tarot Noir
Navigators of the Mystic SEA
Bohemian Gothic

The Rider Waite & Thoth I love so much are absent because I can see them with my eyes closed. Similarly my other favourites, the Aquarian, the Sacred Rose and the Vertigo. The 4 above (besides the Tarot Noir) I feel I still need to explore more.
Le Tarot Noir comes along because ...well, just because!

Prism

I use Tarot only for myself so I'm not sure I should join in, but here goes:

1. Victorian Romantic -- it's my deck of the moment, so I couldn't leave it behind.
2. Medieval Enchantment -- I have missed looking at this deck.
3. Fantastic Menagerie -- I like this one a lot too and want to spend more time with it.
4. Dame Fortune's Wheel -- I think I could learn a lot from this one.
5. Science Tarot -- I have had this one for a while and never used it.

Herodotus

I only own five decks, so this question is very easy for me!

1. The Rider-Waite-Smith
2. The Tarot de Marseille
3. Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot
4. The Wildwood Tarot
5. The Book of Thoth Etteilla Tarot

Navigators of the Mystic Sea is another one I want to work with so I can either keep it or get rid of the 3 copies.

It did occur to me when I was watching the videos that it hadn't been uncommon for people to have just one in the past. It seems like this need for one for every season or every mood, etc., is a relatively recent phenomenon.

Pagan cats
PCS Centennial (I want a Waite Smith and it's the best one, in my book)
Thoth
De La Rea (stunningly beautiful and TdM enough to cover that side of things)

....and I shall take my time over the fifth,
