The artwork is lovely. I have this deck, but I feel like I can't "connect" with it. Does that make sense to anyone?

Of course it makes sense. Different people connect differently to different decks (if that make any sense). It's about who we are inside, how we think, and how we read. I am actually able to connect well with the deck, but I am equally sure that there are some decks that you connect wonderfully with that I would not connect to. We all have our decks like that.
