Druid Animal Oracle Study Group-Crane

2dogs

None of these beautiful birds are now to be found in Britain, giving this card the feeling of an ancient and lonely spirit gazing forlornly at its reflection in the moonlit water and mourning for a long departed mate, dreaming of the past represented by the old carved stones in the background.

A more postive interpretation might be that of meditative concentration, drawn from the way the crane stands immobile on one leg, staring intently into the water, totally focussed and open to whatever it might see.The strength of body, mind and will to remain motionless for as long as it takes for something to appear. The full moon in the sky above might suggest scrying or some form of divination, or perhaps looking into the subconscious, collective memory, past or the underworld of a cave or tunnel leading from the carved stones back into the hillside.
