A new photographic tarot deck

Clockwork Ghost

Hi there,

Awesome news! I'm going to be teaming up with the award winning professional photographer Stefan J. Simons to produce a tarot deck and supporting book. We're going to be pushing quite a few observed norms with this - the plan is for the supporting book to be either online, interactive, and downloadable, or to come as a flash-drive and be able to be printed off if needs be.

Stefan has won awards for his photography at the highest professional levels in New Zealand, and is fully on board to put together either an artistic and surreal deck of exceptional quality or a themed New Zealand deck which shows the country, culture, and population of this country off.

All this is fully up in the air right now, and we're going to have to get funding for it to bring it to life, but it will happen - either soon if we can get the money, or later if we have to fund it ourselves. I've included some of Stefan's art below - note that these images don't represent cards, they are simply examples of his photographic art.

Wow! Stefan's photos are quite remarkable! He has an awesome eye...it will be very interesting to see how your deck progresses! All good luck to you both!

Okay, so there is progress...

1. The working title for the deck is the Clockwork Ghost Tarot (original, huh?) or maybe the Tarot of the Clockwork Ghost

2. It looks like it will be extremely well illustrated major arcana and court cards, but plain pips.

3. Looks like it's going to be funded through Kickstarter, with a whole range of stretch goals and bonuses, including signed original prints and hand made tarot bags.

I'll update you all further as more information comes to hand... watch this space!

Meanwhile... have some more wonderful examples of the art of Stefan J. Simons...

I REALLY like the fresh look of it.

About the pictures though, is the artist going to go for a square deck or the standard rectangular type? The impact of some of the images would 'change' if cropped side to side.

Current plan with the images is a square image in the centre of the card and then text bottom and top. We are considering making the cards reversible, and having both reversed and non-reversed meanings on the cards for ease of interpretation - nothing too intense, just a couple of words, similar to the Thoth and Rohrig decks.

Also, it's looking like we may be able to run two different decks, depending on funding we receive through Kickstarter - if a stretch goal was reached, we could look at a fully illustrated deck instead of just illustrating the court cards and major arcana.
