Goddess Tarot: 13 ~ Transformation: Ukemochi

autumnsdaughter

Ukemochi is the Japanese Shinto goddess of abundance. After she died, her body transformed into many sources of food- so an ending was transformed into new resources or opportunities.

To be honest, I don't really connect with this card- perhaps it is that I can find very little information about who she was... but her myth does remind me of another strange myth- of Sedna, from the Inuit. She was dismembered, and each part of her body turned into a marine mammal which the Inuit could then hunt. Again, it is the idea of transforming loss into gain.

This is one death card that would be nearly impossible to interpret as physical death.
