moon phase the same everywhere?

just saw some online moon phase calendars...and wondering whether the moon phase is the same no matter where u are on earth...

I think the dates & times are based on Grenwitch (Ok I can't spell) mean time. Check out the astronomy charts. It would make no sense to have all different days & times listed, say this for the USA east coast, & that for western Africa, etc. If they use the mean time, then you add or subtract the time difference from there to where you live.

I'm pretty sure this is the way they do it, as astronomy is a field that absolutely has to be very precise. Check around online to see though. OR call one of the observatories & ask (someone at a major museum would know also).

Yes, but in the opposite hemispheres, waxing and waning moons look opposite one another.

Ie, the crescent Moon appearing thus:

is waning in the northern hemisphere, but waxing in the southern's.

Still, when it is Full, it is full, when first quarter, then it is first quater, etc, no matter where on Earth we may be located.

Using the above example, when a northern hemisphere sub-tropical dweller sees this:

I will see this:
  • (
In each case, a waxing Moon.
