Health issues apart of course, because I do know that makes some things impossible. But I'd drive 3 hours to get to a meet-up; some folks think 50 miles is too far, it's about what each person feels is do-able.
When I get to Glastonbury I'm just going to be a 'meeting' all by myself and then see if anyone turns up LOL
Glastonbury is within reach for me, yay! A day's outing, JUST.
A three-hour drive takes me to the Home Counties or the nearer side of London; into Devon; the south coast straight down, but not further east (I grew up in Sussex which takes much longer); the far side of Leicester; somewhere mid-Wales-ish; probably not quite as far as Birmingham. Definitely nowhere near Cambridge, or anything north of Nottingham. There's a vast amount of England beyond that range! Let alone Wales and Scotland. Let alone Ireland!
It isn't just our habit of thinking, it's the road network and the fact that when you drive three hours in, say, Australia, you get further because here there are more traffic lights and one-way systems within that distance.
And as for train fares...
I wouldn't dream of driving into London, for example. I'd have to take a train, meaning parking in the station car park + train from here + tube/buses etc... exorbitant for a day out. Let alone an overnight to make it more doable.
Time I looked into getting that private jet I keep thinking about.
