Image sources for historical

3ill.yazi

Mods, please feel free to relocate this if it's not kosher. Newbie here.

I am interested in doing a collage style deck, and I'm wondering if there are recommended or admired sources of period images which are public domain, or affordable or generous rights. I'm looking for historical images not specifically of tarot images, from anywhere from 16 - 19 C, and I want to make sure I'm using sources properly and appropriately.

Apologies if this is a nope nope nocando.

Dover Publications has a ton of stuff that's copyright free, you might start with there.

A lot of African rock painting images would be copyright free. But those generally go back prior to Egyptian times.

The Web Gallery of Art: http://www.wga.hu/index.html - this is a great site for art research :) while most of the art IS restricted and/or copyrighted, the site provides an easily searchable database, which may be a stepping stone to less restricted works, or may inspire you to create your own?
