Herbal Tarot - XIX - Sun - Angelica

You can see the major arcana cards in Constellation 1.

Description: The sun has “stick” rays, one of them with an ankh. There is a large angelica plant in bloom.

Significant Details: The sun signifies joy and contentment, as well as the beginning. The ankh is an ancient Egyptian symbol of eternal life. The angelica symbolizes the warding off of evil.

Keywords: Enlightenment, Self-confidence, Pride, Enthusiasm

Medicinal Uses: Angelica is anti-dyspeptic, and used for flatulence. An ointment is used for minor skin problems and for rheumatic pain. Culpeper’s Color Herbal. “In Medieval times, angelica was credited with the power to ward off evil spirits and witches…the roots to make holy water. Curing the Great Plague of the 17th century it was used as a protection against infection. The plant reputedly blooms on the feast day of Michael the Archangel.” It has digestive and expectorant properties. American Nature Guides Herbs by Anna Kruger.

My Interpretation: This is a time of enlightenment and enthusiasm. Rely on your self-confidence and pride to help you during this time.

Number Significance: The Sun is in Constellation 1 with I Magician, X Medicine Wheel, the Ones, and the Tens. 1 - Communication; Self consciousness; Individualization; Self-expression; Initiative; At-one-ment; Originality.

Thoughts/Points to Ponder: The Sun is ruled by the Sun. Angelica is ruled by the “Sun in Leo. Gather it when he is there, the Moon applying to his good aspect. Let it be gathered either in his hour, or in the hour of Jupiter.” Culpeper’s Color Herbal
