In "The Alchemical Tarot" (one of my favorites) by Rosemary Guiley and Robert Place they cite 3 of the oldest divination sources, only 2 of which I can find in a local library. Does anyone know where they can be found, and especially if there are English translations? :

1. Mainzer Kartenlosbuch, Ulm, 1487 (Mainz Fortunetelling Book) - the oldest reference to the pips meaning (perhaps referring to the Sola Busca pips?)
2. Le Sorti, Venice, 1540 - which uses the King, Knight, Jack and 6 other Pentacles.
3. Merlini Cocai's Sonnets, 1527, containing divination for the trumps. I have located this one, but not in English, catalogued as:
Author: Folengo, Teofilo 1496? - 1544
Title: Opus Merlini Cocaii poetae Mantuani macaronicorum
Imprint: Venetiis: I. Simbenius, 1572.

Even a translation of that title would be helpful!

Thank you,

This Link speaks of a "Mainzer Kartenlosbuch", but assumes the date "around 110".

To Schurer

Schurer seems to be in contact to a group of humanists, which I once called with some humour "German Golden Dawn". He was in contact and cooperated with Beatus Rhenanus, who was pupil on the legendary basic school from Selestat. Also there are letters from Erasmus of Rotterdam (living in Basel) to Schurer.
