The 'Arabic' Parts were probably all originally Greek - the Arabs simply translating Greek texts. Much of Greek Astrology was lost to Western Europe following the fall of the Roman Empire and did not re-emerge until the twelfth Century onwards - through Arabic translations.

Now there's also a strong argument that the Kabbala has its origins in Greek thought - but perhaps this is not the place to go into that :)

I am tempted to say (!), that according to Kabbalistic Astrology, the first astrologer was Abraham, and the whole thing started for him when he got to the roof one night and looked at the stars. Some romantic Abraham!

I like thinking of astrology like the Tarot: the origins have become a myth by themselves.
