How To Learn Playing Cards?

Pumpkin

I see several of you read with playing cards.

How did you learn to do this?

Is there a good book you could recommend?

oops, I put this in the wrong forum. Please move to the correct place.

Hi Pumpkin!

I think you will really like working with playing cards. Working with them has really improved my skills with Tarot - believe it or not.

I personally use the Hedgewytchery method which can be found here:

Here is Joermit's new system, which I was going to experiment with (but haven't found the time to):

Little Buddha and Phoenix Rising use a different method, Personal Prophecy, which can be found here:

There are tons more, you can search the forum for "playing cards" or "cartomancy" and find many discussions. Also, you might want to check out the Daily Draws in the Oracle Readings to see these methods in action. There are several playing card threads that have gone on for a long time using the different methods.

Welcome to cartomancy! I look forward to your posts should you choose to give playing cards a shot.

6 Haunted Days

Sorry for finding this question so late.

I have tried quite a few methods. The hedgewytchery method was ok, but just too....basic. To much negative and with red being postive and black negative....just didn't work for me.

I finally found a book The Playing Card Oracles :A Sourcebook for Divination by Ana Cortez and it finally all awoke and worked for me! I swear I was in tune with the cards, meanings, nuances and such almost right away. In fact I connected and bonded with the deck and system much faster than Tarot. We have a very special relationship. Oh also her father illustrated the deck, he has been doing drawings of the PC deck for over 30 years...and the colours, images on the cards are breathtaking. I highly reccomend this system and deck. But as she states many times, you don't need to buy the originally illustrated deck, you can just use any old PC deck. Here is a long thread on it http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=49877.

I learned first with an ordinary deck of playing cards. that is how my mother always read fortunes. i felt it was quite easy to pick up, though i did also go to barnes & noble to find a book on the subject. now, i have the tendency to use only my tarot cards---the newest deck seems to get used the most. however, this post makes me want to bring out my playing cards again. i do have a deck of playing cards that i use only for readings--though you don't need to do it that way. i always kept mine seperate because we have a tendancy to have so many decks around that lose a card or two---especially the jokers & I like reading with them as well!

pumpkin---i did like the hedgewitchery site, but don't agree with the red=good, black=evil thought they state. it is a good site to check out though. there are also others online---do a search on 'cartomancy'. there is a forum here that does post a daily personal card reading that is also a good way to learn. i found playing cards easier to learn than tarot---and it helped me alot with tarot as well. hope you enjoy them too---good luck!

Phoenix Rising

Reading playing cards and what ever method you use is a personal choice, I've been looking at different methods of playing cards for about 8 years. But the Personal Prophecy method I use now has been the best for me, Deborah Leigh the author has become a very good friend to me, and is the most lovely lady, who gives most lengthy emails to anyone who has any questions. She has been quite instrumental in pushing me to get out there and conduct readings, she told me to set up a paypal account, she then put money in it so that I would be a verified member..I am quite blessed to know her. How many authors would do that?
Her book is Personal Prophecy:Creating your destiny

Well, after I clean the house up. I think I will check out all these sites today. Maybe run over and pick up a regular deck of cards. I don't think I have one anymore.

Anyone know of any pretty ones? Maybe I should order online.

Yes a beautiful playing card deck and the ones I'm using now is the pippoglyph, they are of Celtic design and have so much more detail although still keeping the integrity, and the original design intact. The courts are also lovely

card reading

Greetings,

I was a psychic entertainer long before I began doing readings (and now do virtually nothing but readings), so my sources to learn were principally trade publications for professional mentalists and psychics. As far as material available to the general public, Foli's "Fortune telling by Cards" is an excellent resource. As to which deck, Piatnik makes some beautiful art decks. I personally use a casino deck which I mark by hand for use in reading.
There is a lot of good information on the web to be had for the googling.
