AT's ATC Tarot Deck Project and Exhibition: Aulruna organizing

See post 528 for further updates

This is from Aulruna.

The original post is below in italics.

___________________________________________

I've been going through the thread and have updated rabble's list.

Oddity, I've counted you in!

However, I have not checked if rabble's account of finished cards is correct - just made sure no double assignments, and a complete list.

Right now, we would each need to print a minimum of 40 and a maximum of 43 cards (if 3 new people should sign up). I think that's manageable.

I'll try to get this list moved to the start of the thread by a global mod, but I can't do the organizational side of things, like PMing everyone and collect and distribute the cards.

I've compiled a to-do-list though:

1. PM everyone on the list and ask for card status/willingness to participate.
2. Set a new deadline (or it will be years until we finish) and communicate it.
3. Collect all snail mail addresses from the participants and calculate postage for the different countries. For those participants in the same country as the organisator, think about requesting self-addressed stamed envelopes (as is customary for ATC swaps).
4. Agree on the medium on which to print, card quality, etc. and communicate those submission guidelines.
5. Monitor progress of project and give the go for printing & sending
6. Keep track of the incoming cards...
7. Send reminders to those who have not sent in theirs.
8. Sort the decks and mail them out...
9. Have several huge drinks along the way.

The list - waiting approval by rabble and her famous excel...

Below is the original post, but the poster is no longer available as I understand it.

Hi everyone. Here we go again. This is an opportunity for tarot artists to create a 78 card deck of ATC's, that has been given the opportunity to be displayed in the UK ATC exhibition in May as part of the popular Bath Fringe Arts Festival, following the success of the UK's first international ATC exhibition last year.

This deck, if enough people are keen to sign up, can be displayed in the exhibition, acting as a showcase for the group and for individual artists. No items will be sold.

I will quote Collie34 on her explanation of an ATC;

"ATC's are artist TRADING cards and that's the main issue that they are traded not sold. It's a new and emerging art form as the emphasis is on exchange not on monetary value.
Stirnemann's idea was that the only way to get an atc was to make and trade an atc.
That is the main and important difference, it's about one to one interaction, about community, taking money out of the picture, as such it is a unique concept a dig in the ribs to the money driven art world."

"look here for a more indepth explanation.

http://www.artist-trading-cards.ch/trading.html"

The only spec here is that the card must be 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches, and if on paper must be mounted onto stronger material (your choice).

No corner cut. You can decorate the back if you wish, but must include on the back your signature and date it. Either on the back or front have the name and number of the card.

however many people sign up to make a full list; that is how many decks will be made, and so each person makes that many of their chosen card. This number will not be know until thedeck is full.

until further notice, the deadline is 'sometime in May'

Please feel free to post which card you would like. You call it first; its yours!

Yo Ready? If you are signed up, don't hesitate to get started, go play!

Hi Bat Chicken and Danubhe, The dealine depends on how quickly people sign up. the last person will need at least a week, although it might be an idea to let people pick more than one card if they so wish. The exhibition isn't until may but i'm sure everybody would like to own their copy before then!

provisionally i say until the 31st of November, giving people enough time. but this can be extended if need be.

I think if you want to do original paintings, some form of block print would be best. I expect most people will digitally reproduce their work and print it as 78 cards is a lot to do by hand. I don't want to say no to anything, you are the best judge of what you can produce.

check out the ATC's on http://atcsuk.blogspot.com. And more picture on http://photosatcuk.blogspot.com/ this might give you a flavour of what is currently out there, as well you might check the Yahoo groups, as they show peoples ATC's regularly.

Enjoy!

Aw man...I would love to join in this project too...

but right now...I cannot feasably make 78 copies of anything!...alas...most of my materials and money for this sort of thing is going directly into my own deck productions...

I would love to contribute originals...but I just don't have the funds to make that many copies...if someone is willing to do that part for me...?

...I think this would be a very cool project!

The thing I love about making atcs...is that I don't usually sell them...but give them or trade them away.
Unfortunately...I would have to sell something in order to get enough money to be part of this.

Making a 78 card deck isn't expensive.
I have made several decks tarot and playing card and I printed off my last 78 cards for less that 5, not sure what that is in $. and that was printing 9 cards to a sheet but I know sone places can fit 10 to a sheet.

If you have a good printer and something like adobe software you can print them off for even less!
My oracle deck I printed myself and that was on high quality paper too and that didn't cost more that 6.50 but I guess if your broke any cost and your going to feel the pinch.

I have lots of us friends who could probably put you onto a good place to get prints done I don't recall any of them saying printing was any more expensive in the US than it is here in the uk.

Most exhibition ask YOU to pay to exhibit work, I don't want to miss the opportunity of my work being seen internationaly at an exhibition just for the sake of a few pounds!

so we make an original, then make printed copies and the original will feature in the exhibition?

is that right or have i read it all wrong?

if the originals appear in the exhibition, then count me in!

Wow........ I hadn't thought of that!
I assumed the exhibition would be of the copies, don't know why I did that

I guess that would mean we'd have to mail 79 cards, 78 copies and the one original.
Then we'd get back 79 cards, the 78 complete tarot deck plus our original card too?

That would be great, I wonder if the exhibition will include other tarot artwork too?
I want to do collage, does anyone know of a good copyright free image cd?

rebecca, how about starting a post up where each card is noted and the person who is making it has their name next to it?

that way we can see which has been taken/is available?

i have no qualms about doing more than one card......so i would like to take the devil and the queen of cups, please.
