Newer Conver images (in 5 colors) are uploaded

kenji

Hi:)
I have uploaded high-resolution images of newer 5-colour version of Nicolas Conver on my weblog:

As you see, this version is much more like Grimaud TdM. In fact, Paul Marteau adopted this colour scheme for his product.

So far, 22 trumps images only. (The project is going on.)

I hope you enjoy them:)

Hi Kenji,

I assume you know that this is the edition of the Conver deck printed by the Camoin House in 1880 as explained on Philippe Camoin site:
http://en.camoin.com/tarot/-Tarot-Marseilles-Conver-1880-.html

Philippe Camoin even printed in 1960 a Bicentennial edition of the deck that was printed from the original woodplates with exactly this color scheme.
This is also the version that was used for the Thunder Bay Press Fac Simile edition called "The Tarot Set" (ISBN 1-59223-138-1)

There is also an edition of the Paul Marteau book "Le Tarot de Marseille" that have loose cards glued on the pages that looks identical.
You can see scans of this book in this thread:
http://www.tarotforum.net/showpost.php?p=782619&postcount=57

BTW it seems as if the 1880 edition of the Conver deck by Camoin has been printed with only four colors: red, blue, yellow and black.

Best regards

Dear coredil,
It is been a long time! I am so glad to have a talk with you again:)

I assume you know that this is the edition of the Conver deck printed by the Camoin House in 1880 as explained on Philippe Camoin site:
http://en.camoin.com/tarot/-Tarot-Marseilles-Conver-1880-.html

Right. I dated my deck as 1890s due to the tax stamp on the Ace of Coins, which appears on the specimen in Camoin's site as well.

Interestingly the Bicentenial edition includes cards which are different from those in earlier Conver decks, such as the Ace of Swords and the Page of Batons. It seems they used other versions in the same woodblock carved by Nicolas Conver.
http://en.camoin.com/tarot/Tarot-Template-8-Nicolas-Conver.html
(This woodblock includes 2 versions of both the Ace of Swords and the Page of Batons. )

Besides, the size of the Bicentennial edition is a bit smaller than the original and seemingly modification was done to the lines in some cases.

There is also an edition of the Paul Marteau book "Le Tarot de Marseille" that have loose cards glued on the pages that looks identical.
You can see scans of this book in this thread:

I have the same edition. I suspect it was because of some copyright matters with France Cartes that Conver cards were used instead of Marteau's own deck.

BTW it seems as if the 1880 edition of the Conver deck by Camoin has been printed with only four colors: red, blue, yellow and black.

I mean by "5 colours" red, blue, yellow, green(=blue+yellow) and flesh/pink, excluding black ink and white background.
