L'Etoile - how may it be read?

This image of Maria reminds me of the TdM Star.





I keep looking for some specific biblical interpretation to the Star/Moon/Sun series. Something along the lines of the Nativity/the Crucifixion/the Resurrection, but there doesn't seem to be much connecting the Moon to the Crucifixion.
