This is an idea that's been rolling around in my head for a long time. I initially wanted to draw the images myself, but just never seemed to get around to it. Then I remembered all the antique nude pictures I've collected over the years and realised what a fun challenge it would be to create a deck with them!
This isn't porn; I don't even know if it could be classified as "erotica" by today's standards. How about "gently saucy"?
I'm only using public domain pictures from the Victorian, Edwardian and "Flapper" eras. The 30's started getting very arty - which is beautiful, but doesn't mesh with the earlier decades - and after that it starts getting too sexual for what I'm trying to achieve.
The cards are still in very rough, first draft stage. I'm just working on matching the pictures I have with the scene, theme or mood of the cards at this point; later, I'll work on adding symbols etc. This is a personal project and might never be more than an art deck, but I am definitely attempting to find images that are as close to the known tarot ones as possible. It’s fun to notice that I’m at a point where I’m familiar enough with the tarot that the right pictures *jump* out at me. Some are more difficult than others - both for lack and dearth of options - but I'm surprised again and again how the archetypes appear in multiple art forms.
