For me, iit helps to lay them out in a pyramid-with-a-stem (or an up-pointing arrow). I thus have a visual picture showing from where the additional cards arose.

(1+3) -External Aspects (at the top=seen)
(1+2) (2+3) -Receptive & Active Influences
1 2 3 -The original three cards
(1+2+3) -Hidden Influences (at the bottom=unseen)

Wow - judging from his completely insane films it doesn't surprise me that he's into tarot. Has anyone seen any of his films. Sante Sangre is the first one I saw and it is .... mmmmm weird! I'd love to see the others but haven't had the opportunity.
