Is a tarot app as good as picking a card?

spookyboo22

Hi
I use a tarot app on my phone . I ask a question and pick a single card . I use it when I'm out because it's not feasable to carry a deck with me, shuffle and draw etc when im at work or on the go.
I find it just as relevant and empowering.
Does anyone else do this? I'd be interested to know what others feel about electronic tarot x

I would never do it for myself or in a face-to-face reading situation, but I decided that if I ever get around to offering on-line readings, I will have my clients pull their own cards either with a physical deck or an app. I came around to the idea that it's the intent that matters more than the mechanics, as long as the degree of concentration is the same. Personally, I only use apps for reference purposes. I'm kind of limited in my access to them because Fool's Dog doesn't support Kindle.

Thanks Barleywine!

If i use tarot at all it's because my intent is strong whether it's cards or app so you've said the words i wanted to hear šŸ˜€

I used the Golden Thread app for awhile before having to delete it due to phone space, and I quite enjoyed it. I got some great readings and daily draws out of it.

There are some things that are limiting about an app, like being able to use freeform spreads or do more than just a daily draw (depending on the app). There's also the arguments on if a number generator can be truly random, but I think in a pinch there's nothing wrong with using an app. If one finds it as helpful as a physical deck, that's all that really matters.

Thanks for the reply!

I haven't got time to decipher a spread on the go anyway and even when I'm at home i mostly pull a single card for a question . I would always use my own deck in private but i need something to help me out when I'm at work or socialising.
I've found it uncanny. At first i didn't trust it but now i really think it's great.
Like Barleywine said , i think it's about intent x

I just use apps to study certain decks to be honest. I might do a one card draw for myself with, say, the Fairy Tale or Holy Light or Cosmic and read the text. For others, I'd always opt for a physical deck. I know it's the intent but I just prefer to actually draw a card. Apps are great for textual study in my opinion, or just looking up close at detailed decks.

I've had apps in the past, but I definitely need the physical touch of the paper. Otherwise it doesn't feel real. But I see no "mystical" problem with readings done through apps if they work for you, everything is just a development of technology, after all. I imagine a caveman saying "What?! you can't read paper, only bones and feces!" So really, everything is variation on a theme.

I like to use my apps when I'm on holiday or for practice when I'm not at home - in waiting rooms for example. However, as for some others here, readings with an app don't feel that real to me. I wouldn't read on important questions with my apps.

I guess this is really up to the reader. To me, apps never worked. I have many but to figure out whether I should buy a certain deck or not. I go through the images, play with some combos and make up my mind. I have saved on buys and shipping this way... having said that I always wondered why apps were not my thing and I believe it's all about the shuffling and the picking. There is no energy on mixing the cards inside a cell phone and it is the app that picks a certain card, not me. I also like to choose a card by holding my hand over the fanned deck and feeling which one seems "hotter" and that is also something undoable with an app. But again, it's all very personal. If you work well with apps, GO for them! They're portable, practical and infinitely cheaper than the real paper deck :)

Picking cards via a random number generator within an electronic program reminds me of the sarcastic observation about the RNG approach to randomly granting quests in an on-line computer fantasy game: "praying to RNGeezus" to hopefully get what you need. It's almost totally impersonal, to be sure, but not necessarily invalid if one accepts the notion that pushing a button is not that much different from randomly pulling a card from a "fan." (I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here, I wouldn't use apps myself for generating readings.)
