On page 98 of Dante Gabriel Rossetti: His Family Letters, volume I (Boston Robert Brothers, 1895), there is a description of satirical playing cards done in lithograph around 1845.

Ireland is Queen of Clubs
Shakespear as King of Hearts
Death as King of Spades

Death is a gravedigger with baggy breeches and standing on a grave.

That is the only note I have right now, but hope to see more descriptions and pictures soon..
