The book actually explains the "suffering" part of the card quite well, and also makes note that today, we are readily accepting quick ecstasy from drugs, instead of achieving natural ecstasy - just like with this card, we shouldn't be quick to jump to conclusions (or to expect a fast result), but immerse ourselves in the card and then find its message.
The card invites us to let everything go and just try to get in tune with the Universe again. To me, it is similar to bodhisattva or the idea that with experiencing ultimate pain and suffering, we find our epic core. That which remains when everything has been taken away.
The ecstasy here is escapism, letting yourself go, letting yourself rowl, the night of crazy dancing after a painful breakup.
