What house is used for missing items? HORARY CHART INCLUDED!

CaliforniaTarot

Yesterday I bought a bottle of nail polish, and when I got home and looked for it in the plastic bag, I couldn't find it! There was no hole in the bag and the receipt stated that the polish had been rung up (I also remember leaving the store with it). I've looked everywhere for it, including my car, and still haven't found it :(.

My question is: Do I use the 2nd house as the significator for the missing polish? I've always heard the 2nd house is the house of missing items, including missing people and pets. Is this true in my case, or do I use another house?

You might have to zoom in since I couldn't make it any bigger for some reason.

**Also, my significator is Mars which rules the Aries 1st house and it's 26 degrees, so it's really late. I've read that horary charts can't be read if the ascendant is too late in degrees since it means that it's too late do anything about it :(. Is this true?!**

The second House relates to income and moveable possessions, and that includes your nail polish. I actually find the lost item horary the most difficult because there's a variety of factors to include and a variety of possible meanings, involved, dependant on the circumstances.

The 26 degree Aries Ascendant, is not an indicator of 'too soon, considerations prior to judgement refer to the first or last three degrees of a Sign and this Ascendant is not that advanced. However at 22 degrees Virgo the Moon is Void of Course (No major aspect before it changes Sign, so the likely signification here is that nothing will come of the matter - that is you won't find your lost item.

I use Whole Sign Houses, these days, which would give it's significator as Venus, an appropriate one for something connected to glamour and beauty. Your chart, using Regiomontanus gives the significator as Mercury, as the second house cusp is in Gemini. Both Venus and Mercury are conjunct in the eleventh House in Aquarius., so it's not going to make a lot of difference to the reading.

Possible locations that could be signified are:

With a friend, if you met one or visited one after your purchase and before your discovery of the loss. in a partner's work area (sixth from the seventh), in a club or meeting place where you socialise, and by extension somewhere you associate with friends or socialising.

Geographically the eleventh signifies South East (more South than East).

Aquarius is an air sign, so high up (upstairs, upper floors, roofs, high shelves, is also signified. and Geographically Aquarius is West to North. Fixed signs tend to signify hidden or out of view places, sometimes low down, so it could have fallen down the back of the sofa, especially if the sofa is above the ground floor.

Liily actually uses the Moon as the significator of things lost and says if the Moon is applying to the Ascendant, or to its Lord or to the Lord of the twelfth (the twelfth rules loss) or to the Lord of the House of the Moon (Lord of the House in which the Moon is placed) the missing thing shall be found again. But if the Moon applies to none of these and is not in the Ascendant or the second house the thing shall not be found.

In a lost item horary he would also consider whether the thing has been stolen. He has a number of tests to see if you've actually got the item but don't know it. Those seem to suggest that you haven't.

He has a whole battery of further tests depending on whether the thing is stolen or in the house, so it's actually a lengthy process and given that we have some preliminary indications that this chart suggests no favourable outcome, I won't go through them.

My advice would be to try another chart later on and see if that gives any real guidance (no considerations to worry about).

I really appreciate the response. The void of course moon must have slipped right past me :/. Also, I prefer Whole Houses as well, but some people have told me that we can only use Regiomantus which I hate and despise since it's way too hard to figure out. I'm glad you said that Whole Houses are fine too. The polish was only $2, but I REALLY hate losing things that I paid my own money for (I guess that's the Taurus sun sign in me).

I unfortunately didn't meet up with anyone after I went to the store. I thought that maybe it would be in my room since my room is on the second floor, but I've looked in and around every nook and cranny in my room to no avail. The place I bought the polish from is South of where my home (where I am now and where I did the chart), so since the sig is South of me I have a feeling it might've fallen out somewhere between me leaving the store and getting into my car :(

When I started to get interested in Horary, I bought Tony Louis' book Horary Plain and Simple and he said exactly the same thing about Regiomontanus. That view comes from the fact that Lilly used that house system and at the time he was (and still largely is) seen as the fount of all things horary. So Regiomontanus came to be associated with Horary and was the system to use.

In fact Lilly used Regiomontanus because he had tables for it and in his lifetime tables for Placidus were not common. As often is the case in Astrology people have to use what is available to them. I have little doubt that if Lilly had Placidus tables he would at the very least have tried using them.

We now know that Horary dates back to the very early Arabic period when they used Whole Sign Houses. My feeling is that you can use any house system you like, as long as you are consistent and think about it carefully.
