Patience is a virtue. This patient is not necessarily a virtue but they are trying. Very trying. You got to finish what you started. Keep tabs on progress and don't turn your back for one second. That smile is a cover for their true feelings, that being of "thanks for the snack now what's for the main course?". Well, if you look around you will see there isn't anyone other than you. They have played along with your experiment, but you have still got to keep a hand hovering over that shock button. Don't worry about ramping it up. You won't hurt their feelings. In fact it won't hurt them at all but they may come out from it with rather a nice perm they didn't go in with. Make a note of the cause and effect system. It may help you for future endeavours and save a lot of time and heartache.
If you are the zombie though it does make for a different ball game. How frustrating is it to not dive into the goodies on the table, knowing if you do you will be zapped. So, so cruel.
