Playstation 2 videogame: Persona Saga

Psy

Hey everyone!
I just thought it might interest those of you who look for games related to tarot to hear about this game. It's a saga of games related intensely to Tarot cards.
It's called "Persona".
To sum the story up a bit, the game's about a few teenagers who happen to discover a mistery hour during everyday's night. This hour is a hidden hour between 00:00, and 00:01. It's 60 minutes when every human being in Tokyo becomes a frozen solid coffin, but is not at all aware of this. During this hour, there are strange monsters on the loose (called "shadows") which attack the coffins, resulting in leaving the person in a state of uncounciosness known as "apathy Syndrome".
Our main character is a teenager who is aware of this hidden hour (that is, he does not become a coffin), and not only that, he can also summon a Spirit that is a manifestation of his Psychis, a "Persona". He then meets a bunch of other guys who can also summon different Personas and then try together to stop the action of the Shadows.

Where does tarot fit here? Well, Tarot is the key center of the game. Each Persona is an avatar of one of the major Arcana, they all having different skills and characteristics. Thus, "Fool" Personas tend to be flexible and adaptable to change, while "Chariot" Persona are usually more focused on fighting (and "Priestess" Persona being sensitive, and so on).

But this link is not only it. The game emulates a year of life of the main character (you), where you have to go to school, spend time with your friends, and of course manage to make some time to fight and stop shadows. During the non-fighting time, you must improve your self to get to a better state of character to be able to socialize better with people. This is very iportant, because each character is ALSO related to a major Arcana card of the tarot deck! The main character, for example, is the only one capable to summon Personas of the Fool arcana, and also summon ANY OTHER arcana Persona; while others are linked to only one tarot card, and can summon only one persona. Even characters which are not main, and do not fight, have Major Arcana cards associated. For example, you may choose to spend time with a dying young man who is seeing everything from the perspective of Death and raise your Sun Personas skills; or spend some time with the greedy manager of a TV channel, and develop your skills with Devil Personas. To be able to talk to all these people, you have to be rather interesting.

Thus, You have to, for example, build your courage to be brave enough to tell the girl you like to date you, or be intelligent enough to be able to sense people's hidden feelings. Once you improve your self, you can get richer and deeper conections with people, thus enhancing the strengh of your Personas during the battle.

The story is just FASCINATING. It suggest that when you realize that you have a SELF, you can then use it to face life hardships; or, as in Persona 4's story, you must face your hidden unconsious feelings to be a WHOLE being and summon your persona!

If you search the forum, there are some discussions on Persona, particularly P3. Which was an excellent game, although the 100 hours took me a few months to complete. :)

I decided that I don't have that kind of time for P4, so I opted not to buy it. But I did think it looked good.

Thanks for sharing.

Please, DO play persona 4!!! I thought "nah, it's too long, and it must be more or less the same". But it's NOT, it's completely amazing!
