Infinity Tarot

Le Fanu

What's strange is that I've almost forgotten that the cards are in the form of a lemniscate.

Instead it feels like 78 birthday cards for an 8 year old.

If only they had been standard size! This would have been quite a lovely deck.

Ah, leminiscates, they pop up where you least expect them.

Is it hard to shuffle? It really does seem like an odd shape for a deck, though having another look at the images on google of the cards, I think I may add this to my collection, its more interesting at second glance than I thought. (I have no right to complain anyways, I have a playing card deck shaped like a rabbit!)

I like the backs anyways. People can change their minds about things right? :D

I once saw a film about what would happen if humans suddenly vanished from the earth. In it they had a segment in which they discussed different modes of recording knowledge. It seems that in five thousand years we haven't found anything more durable than carving in stone as paper and magnetic media all deteriorate pretty quickly if not kept in optimal conditions.

I mention this because it seems that plain old squares or rectangles can't really improved upon in terms of the comfort of shuffling and using cards. Odd-shaped decks may be a novelty but at the end of the day that's all they are. At the very least, this deck looks uncomfortable for shuffling (not to mention that screeching heart).

Easier than the Heart Tarot to shuffle. Looks bigger than it actually is in the Amazon photos. I think it's quite manageable

Oh my good goats *YES*!!! That's exactly the feeling I got on first opening the box...!!

Normally I'm a big Lo Scarabeo fan, but this deck is a failure in so many ways I'm embarassed for them and at the same time perturbed that I wasted money buying it.
Fortunately :?: my friend gave me her copy (about the only gift from her that I've ever almost turned down), but I agree that the deck is a failure in so many ways. Looking through what was my friend's deck when I was looking through it, some of the punched holes started falling out of the cards. And the join of the paper on the side of the top of the box is already starting to separate.

This looks like the artwork was chosen, then stamped out with the 8 shape, sort of fit as best possible. Have you seen those casino card decks with the holes in the middle? The holes aren't always punched in a proper place and this looks like what happened here.

They should have just not punched holes in it, it still would have been infinity shaped.
The Wheel of Fortune is about the only card that works with the holes. Originally I thought the Devil also worked, but upon closer inspection, the real eyes don't line up with the holes. If you're going to do an infinity shaped deck, give the artist a template to use to incorporate the holes into the picture instead of cutting the finished art into an infinity shape and punching holes in it! I can't believe that the fine folks at LoS printed out a test copy of this deck, actually looked through it and thought the idea was so well executed that they could go ahead and release the deck. There's no way this deck was sent through a QA process....

Yes, it's the holes.

I have just seen this in my local shop. The box didn't look too big actually. Quite manageable but the shape won't work for me. I was angry with myself at being talked into buying the Heart Tarot when that came out and I felt it was sort of ok but the shape really ruined the deck for me and I got rid of it. Same here. The artwork is actually quite interesting.

This could only be a novelty.
Yes, it's most definitely the holes! As with most LoS decks, they've taken some of the images into new and different/interesting places (that they then mess up with the holes):

  • the black and white tigers in the Chariot who are more interested in attacking each other than in moving the chariot forward. (But with that big hole in his torso, the Charioteer looks completely ineffectual.)
  • balancing light and dark in Justice (you almost don't see the ball of darkness thanks to the hole)
  • the Devil as a woman drawing the dead to her from around the edges card
  • the hand coming out of the sky in the Tower to rip it off its floating rock
  • the rising Sun as an egg yolk
  • there are lots of interesting Minors, but I won't go into those

I can shuffle some big decks, but I'm only able to shuffle this one from the side, interlacing the top half of the 8

I do hope LoS realizes the error of their ways and release a standard (rectangular) version of this deck. THAT I would use. This is a novelty that's just going to gather dust.

The artwork doesn't move me. I feel like the symbolism is lacking. It doesn't speak to me at all.
I think it was an interesting concept but I sincerely dislike the infinity shape of the cards.
If those black spots I see in the image search are holes, then that makes me despise it even more because they don't really work with the artwork at all.
I think this needed to be more thought out than it was and it definitely could use a lot more editing.
It's not necessarily bad but I'm not crazy about it.

For those interested, somebody did an unboxing video. She doesn't say anything in the video, but she shows off every card and you can see everything quite clearly. Some cards do work, and some don't. The artwork is very interesting anyways, I'd like to see more of the artist's work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4qPyNoGyyM

What is the purpose of the holes??? does it add any meaning to this deck?

The holes on each card is very random and unprofessional. Some of the characters in this deck have their body chop-off by the holes. I've never seen tarot's artwork being treated like that.
The artwork *on the orther hand* is consistency and lovely. The body porpotion, facial expression and the color is just right. Love the three-dimensional effect that the artist drew in most of the cards. Worked perfectly with the 8-shaped.
I will definitely get this deck if lo scarabeo make a version without the holes T v T

I just watched the unwrapping video... and the artwork seems very Disney!
Apart from the Devil, those holes are just getting in the way of the art. If I'd been the artist, and known those shaped holes would be the feature of the deck, I would have tried to make every single image fit...but this deck might as well be rectangular, and come with a free pair of scissors
