How much would you pay...

spinnachie

I have quite a few decks under my belt, since I have started with Tarot, and I was wondering what the most anyone has ever paid for a Tarot Deck, and why?

The reason I ask is sometimes I see decks on ebay that go for around the 100 dollar mark, and they are used...
Now I realize that most of these decks are out of print, such as the servants of the light tarot (which is a deck I really would love to get my hands on) however I kind of feel like that's a bit steep for a deck...

I think the most I have paid was around 40 dollars for my wild unknown...

Im curious about how high others will go for the perfect deck! :)

I think the most expensive I've bought was about $300. It's all about what you really love and would like to have though isn't it? As long as you truly enjoy a thing, then that's fine.

When considering bigger purchases like this, I go with logic - is it going to bring me $XXX worth of joy and use? If you work, divide that by what you get paid by the hour, aka how much you'd have to work to earn that money back. If you're paid $9/hr, it's a much bigger investment than if you make $30/hr, but if you'll get that much happiness out of having it in your hot little hands, it's worth it.

Oh absolutely, I meant no disrespect or judgment, I didn't mean for it to come across that way.
If I could afford a 300 dollar deck and there was one out there that I really fancied I would absolutely fork over the money, for the reason you stated.

May I ask what deck it was that you purchased?

I totally get that, my wild unknown cost me more than any other of my decks but to me it was worth every penny...so it was definitely money well spent...
For me so far there is only one deck that I would LOVE to get my hands on that is around 100 bucks or so, which is the servants of the light as I mentioned in my first post...I don't really know why I am drawn to it so much but for some reason I am...however financially I shouldn't be buying any deck right now lol so Im definitely holding back

It's down to economy for me - I don't earn a lot and we do have some protectionism in place, meaning we have to pay import tax on stuff from abraod that costs more than 300 NOK including shipping. That's about 35$, though I'm not sure if tarot decks are considered to be books as I believe there are no tax on them then. Either way, if there is tax I would stay under that line, and if there isn't I think 500 NOK/60$ is what I'd feel was a decently big amount of money spending if I really, really wanted a deck. I usually get mass produced decks because there's a lot of them I like, they're easier for me to get and they're cheaper. So far I haven't seen an OOP or indie deck that was really expensive that I felt the urge to get, but if you have the funds I don't see any problem with buying more expensive decks than what I do.

Depending on how affluent I am at the time... an OOP deck that I'm really drooling over I might pay £150-200 for...

But I don't have any at that price in my collection.
I think the most expensive to date is £80.

I guess it really depends on the deck. I've paid $350, but that was a very special case. I don't think I'd ever pay more than $100 for a mass market edition, regardless of how rare.

I can understand that...here sometimes shipping is more then the deck itself so it doesn't make sense to buy something that I can find in a store
