Meditation and hands

I have been meditating sincerely since the past month and have recently noticed that when I go deep into meditation, or even when I journey, my hands get icy cold or sometimes very hot. It is very extreme. Does this normally happen during meditation?

Your sitting position can effect your hands. Vertibrae C5 through C8 (your neck area) may be out of line or being pinched, this can cause you to feel sensations in the hands. Yoga exercises/stretches are good for relaxing this area. The trapezius muscle which helps to hold the head up is a "tonic" muscle, meaning it is "on" all the time during waking hours, hopefully it relaxes while you sleep. If it does not turn off while sleeping it will give you that stiff neck feeling, this can also cause sensations in the hands. I have had clients who have had problems with their hand while meditating, stretching and massage has helped.

Don't know if this is your problem, but it might be something to look into. Hope this helps.

I have not noticed that while meditating, but I do agree w/what Pamuya says. I have bulging discs at C5/C6 and C6/C7 and it does cause my neck, shoulders and arms to go numb/tingling. I sometimes lose use of my hands as well--due to the numbing. (not for hours, but...) so I know it can be a disc issue. Perhaps you will need to see a doctor about that, a_shikhs, because trust me, you don't want that to go untreated! good luck.

Hmm.. I get these cold/warm sensations on my hands only during meditation, whether I'm sitting or lying down. I sleep very well and do not get any pains or anything and I do practice yoga 4-5 times a week. I'm sure this has nothing to do with the position as while meditating, I am always in a very comfortable position and sometimes even fall asleep. :p
