Sharing favorite Mabon rituals and recipes

With Fall upon us, which is one of my favorite times, wondering if ATers would care to share things they're doing. In no particular order, I plan on getting some lovely spicy candles in a dark orange, doing a little decorating with leaves (this is the FIRST Autumn I have been in a place that really HAS a distinctive changing of seasons in decades!), going into a more of a meditative state and of course getting ready for Halloween! This is when things like cinnamon and clove oils that I make room sprays from make a big appearance too. Mabon and spices seem to go so well together :). I will also do a special reading. Anyone have anything they're working on?

It's finished here, but I bought a few bottles of mead which we will enjoy throughout the winter and redecorated my altar. :)

My favorite time of year too, GD! I plan to get out some fall decor--we have a cute little scarecrow for the porch, but quite honestly-I've got to go buy some more for our gardens. We have above ground garden blocks--and we did put a scarecrow up in the tomato one when the deer attacked them. It worked for most the season, but now I guess the deer are use to that scarecrow as they are back and eating out of our garden again. both the vegetables AND our plants too! So, perhaps MORE scarecrows will do the trick and being the season to buy them--I'm going out to find a few. Perhaps also a few owls to put in there to scare the rabbits away too.........

I have fall candles already - and will begin burning them too. mmm...and will soon be making some orange clove decor too. I love the smell of cloves with oranges. maybe heat some up in the crock pot too. Its our time of year for our Swedish Glogg too---MMM. nothing better on a cold evening. :) We're still canning stuff and made up some applesauce, which is DELICIOUS. I want to make some gingerbread this week and perhaps some apple/cinnamon bread too. This time of year makes me want to cook! And, the beer Samuel Adams has a delicious harvest pumpkin flavored beer available, which we already have tried and still have a few, so popping open a few of them after dinner now and again is also in the plans. :D lots of German meals will be cooked too this season and a few other fall favorites, stuffed cabbage for one, and my own ginger meat loaf which is out of this world! with red cabbage and mmmm.....potato pancakes & apple sauce! :D

now my stomach is growling.............

Autumn is my favourite time of the year, too. I have chili cooking on the stove right now. :) Of course at some point before the end of November, there will be a pumpkin pie. And I will have to make apple crumble.

It's a little early yet for brilliant autumn leaves, but we intend to go out to the Rollrights one afternoon in October, and maybe I will be lucky enough to gather some orangey and red leaves there for my altar.

Oh, and of course can't forget butternut squash and peanut soup. With a bit of sage and black pepper in it. :)

oooh yes, butternut squash and also acorn squash! love them! and the fall also makes me think of turnips too. I love to mash turnips in my potatoes--mash them together that is. mmm!

Spices cake is my favorite dessert, but there are other dessert with cinnamon and apples that I like too. Now is the perfect moment to eat those. I baked one spice cake recently for our Mabon party in our coven and it was quite popular, probably because I never cook and buy desserts instead. They were all surprised and demanded from me to bake spice cakes for the next times too.

That sounds so good WolfyJames!

I love spice cake! Not sure what it is about spices and Fall and Winter, but they all go together so well.
I am making a carpet freshener with a box of baking soda and adding drops of peppermint oil, shaking it all up, and letting it sit in a bag a few hours, shaking all over the carpeting, letting it set for a few hours and vacuuming. I also like to add a few drops of clove and cinnamon oils in a pan of simmering water, I know one can just the spices themselves, but the oil seem to really pack a punch!

GD, what a great idea! this sounds really good. have you done this before? how long does the aroma last? I only have carpet in a few places in our home--but it may be nice to use this same recipe. thanks. :)

Hi celticnoodle!

It depends on the amount of oil you add and the quality. If it's the pure oil and you add about 20 drops to a small package of baking soda and let sit tightly wrapped in a bag for a few hours (or even overnight) and then shake well and spread all over the area, let sit for at least a few hours before vacuuming, it keeps the scent pretty well. But I also do spray air fresheners just grabbing a spray bottle, distilled water, clove and cinnamon, or just peppermint, or lemon grass and tea tree (usually not more than two different ones, because it's hard to determine how I'll like the outcome lol. I once mixed a few up and it smelled like Raid ahahahah). Those are great just before company comes and adds more atmosphere esp around the holidays. I have thought of doing clove and cinnamon mixed in for a carpet freshener because that would really smell festive.
