The Gatekeeper of Our Words

sharpchick

I've been sitting on my deck, doing my morning reading (both tarot and book) before getting into my gardening chores. The temperature is just about 50 degrees and there is a breeze that made me come back in to exchange my shorts for a pair of ratty and totally comfortable sweatpants.

My morning reading today included a lesson from an Isamic proverb (I know some of you are wondering what Islam could possibly mean to a practioner of earth spirituality, but bear with me here - I take lessons from all faiths. . .)

According to the proverb, each word we utter should be able to pass through three gates. At the first gate, the gatekeeper asks, "Is it true?" At the second, he asks, "Is it necessary?" At the third gate, he asks, "Is it kind?"

If you can answer yes to the gatekeeper for all three questions, go ahead and say it. If not, you might want to rethink the matter.

That's a pretty good lesson for me.

SharpChick, you should have included this technique for reading on that thread. I have enough trouble reading my cards fanned out in front of me, let alone sitting on the deck while doing it. :) I'm sure it would make my neck hurt.

I didn't even realize the play on words there.

Oh my.
Today, well today I would have failed miserably at that and would be seen sitting outside of the gates.

Beautiful, beautiful stuff. Many thanks.
