The Alice Tarot

Melia

Quoting an older post, the listing price for the Bohemian Silver LE is $49.50 plus shipping.

http://www.tarotforum.net/showpost.php?p=1251314&postcount=1541

The LE - $49.50 + about $10 for the book (according to that link) - was 2x the price of the standard deck SET - $29.50 - and with only 500 copies printed.

With the Alice it's 2000 copies they currently expect they will print - i.e. 1500 more copies on the market than the LE Bohemian Gothic ... and the talked about pre-order price of 95 euros (currently US $125.57 / A $135.91) makes this approx. 2.2 times the price of their latest standard deck printing (the Victorian Romantic). The VR standard was 24.50 euros (I'm sure pre-order was even cheaper) and the book at 12.5 euros (pre-order price) = euros 37 for the VR set.

I don't think a doll is intended to be part of the ''package''.
The price is due to all their problems with printers plus the fact that they've spent many years on creating these images. And it will be a limited run (2000).

Pre-order price should be €95.

I think it's absolutely fair although some will of course have problems finding that kind of money. But it IS art and they really have spent so much time on this. Also... we all know that within months (weeks... days...) they will sell for much more on eBay and as it has been until now only THOSE sellers get the big profit, which isn't fair.
Thanks, Nina* Yes, fair enough. But it is painful.

Still - as long as a DOLL isn't in there upping the price ! I can SO live without "packages" ! I just want the deck and where particularly worth it, the book - some are, some aren't ! I have just realised I can save $50 on one deck I like the look of, by not going for the package (no, not naming it !) And again - YES about ebay.

True - but then they had the regular decks being printed, and the package :D for them would have evened it all out a bit.

Nina is right -- there's no doll included with the deck, nor is a book included as part of the "package". A doll will be available separately for those who want to purchase it. A book will be available separately for those who want to purchase it. Other related merchandise will be available for those who want to purchase it.

But according to the information and answers I've gleaned on the Alice Tarot facebook page, the price is for the deck itself. Happily, the pre-order price seems very reasonable indeed for a limited edition, carefully crafted deck.

That would make the Alice Tarot 4x pricier than the Victorian Romantic standard deck (their last deck printing) with 2000 copies possibly to be printed. The LE Bohemian Gothic set (only 500 copies printed) was just 2x the price of the standard BG set. No matter how carefully crafted this deck will be, there's no doubt it is a VERY pricey deck.

Have pre-orders started ???

Fortunately no one is forced to buy it. :)

Not that I'm aware, and I'm on the notification list (thus I hope I would be aware if the pre-orders had started).

But the person to ask for certain would be Karen / the Baba-Prague folks themselves.

Fortunately no one is forced to buy it. :)

Quite so :).

Sure. I was only using the data to show the marked difference in price being asked for this deck, in comparison to other previous decks. Also what is deemed a "reasonable" price to some, may not be for others, even if no-one is forcing anyone to buy anything here. It's surely ok for anyone to comment here, without feeling the need to justify the reason for one's thoughts.

Lovely deck though ... I hope it does well for them.
