The Cheimonette Tarot

cheimonette

Here's a new card, which I can now attach to this thread because I just became a member!

I really enjoyed making this card. I've had trouble with the Empress in the past- she seemed so one-dimensional, like a cliche instead of an archetype. I'm so glad I got to know her better.

In my deck, the Empress and Emperor are rulers in their own solipsistic universes, trapped (or exalted) by their own ideal utopian visions of the world. The Empress believes in a world in which she need exert no force or dictatorial control. She believes in the inherent wisdom and capability of each component of her world, the rights of freedom and autonomy, the burden on responsibility taken off her shoulders. Love through total non-control, like the natural world itself.

I love these cards - but I have one slight reservation about this latest one - the way her hair curls sort of zeroes in in a way that I don;t like. Not WHERE it is, just the way it sort of spirals in - it feels kind of prurient, if that makes sense. One more curl so there didn't seem to be that "dot marks the spot" feel to it would help me...

I absolutely LOVE the landscape she stands in. And you are good with hands ! Lots of people - aren't !

The majors are really special in this deck. I love your technique, but the ideas are what stand out for me - especially this card and the "Devil" card you posted earlier.

Thank you, Gregory! The hair obscuring/drawing attention to the Empress's sex organs was intentional, as the Empress (to me, at least) is one of the more sexual cards. Does it seem obscene, or not quite as intentional as I meant it?

I am glad you like the landscape she stands in. That was one of the recent changes I made on this card, after many years. :)

And thank you, merissa! I have put a lot of conceptual symbology into my deck, which was at least as much work as painting these cards.

Here's a few more cards, this time from the swords pip cards. This suit is progressive: you can see in the ace that the city is intact, but in the later cards the buildings are crumbling, and trees are growing out of them. In the ten, everything is destroyed and the kings are dead in the graveyard.

The cards I uploaded are the ace, four, eight, nine, and ten. A gloomy subject for a Friday night, but I hope you find them interesting.

The Swords suit is disturbing. But in a good way.

I like this depiction; very Venusian; a side of the Empress not usually depicted (although there by correspondence)

Two things about these:
1. .... Wow!

2. Tarot cards??? I would have the first 4 framed on my walls ... I liked your other cards but these are REALLY good ... I'm still detecting a voodoo feel to some of the artwork ... I like that.

The 5th reminds me of the 'great feast' a right I studied back when studying anthropology; it has versions in some cultures; the basics are a shared paired death during ecstasy or orgasm and then consumption of the bodies by the tribe (Andahadna tried to emulate it this in her symbolic Mass of Maat Rite)

I am wondering (from an Anthropological perspective) what the stimulus for this card design was?

Thanks for posting pics :)

Incredible artwork.

The artwork is amazing and I love the palette you're working with. This is definitely a Kickstarter campaign I will support.

I'm tossing in my money for 2 copies. VERY nice art. Wonderful deck non-RWS and yet relatable.
