Etsy Decks

That's exactly what I mean, Etsy has a fairly large portion of self published decks, and that's what i've been noticing in my groups and over the 'net. :)

Self-Published does not mean 'Self-Produced' - if that is one of your criteria.

Both versions of my deck are 'self-published' - that means I sweated my way through drawing, designing, and dealing with getting them published; they are not 'self-produced' in any step of the publishing process by my two hands other than my clicking a mouse.

oh dear, I associate etsy with home made stuff I'd never buy, although I know there's all types of stuff there. In fact, I have never bought anything off etsy but it's partly because of the old Customs fears. I assume etsyland is in the US? I order from the U.S less and less nowadays as they invariably get slammed with Customs taxes when they arrive here. I have to ask myself - "ok, the deck is $30, would I pay twice that?" Coz that's how Customs seems to work.

But, like nisaba said, you can't really generalise. It's like asking what amazon decks are like (almost. OK, maybe not) If it were a self-published deck you just can't trust the cardstock unless someone here (or there or wherever) says it really is good.

But I must overcome my prejudice one day when I'm not too busy. Isn't there (also) loads of laughable home-made stuff on etsy? Stuff made by people who can't do anything else? Like anything, there's all types...

LOL Actually, Le Fanu, you can get some very well made hand crafted products on Etsy.com. Everything from furniture to custom made wedding dresses. It's also a great place to get craft supplies and vintage items. (Anything over twenty years old.)

While Etsy's offices are in the US, the actual sellers are all over the world, and they choose where they sell to and how much the shipping costs. You can actually set the search engine to just show you shops in your country.

I've never looked at tarot decks on etsy, but I've seen some pretty nice tarot bags and cloths.

oh really? I didn't know that. I might be able to get myself something pointless just in time for Christmas.

Le Fanu, you should check out Regretsy. ;)

Also, you do own the Charissa Steampunk deck, she sold those on Etsy, but also sold them here. So, it's sort of like you do own an Etsy product. :D It's still my favorite of the Steampunk decks.

Le Fanu

Yes, I have the Charissa Steampunk deck, pearlescent finish no less, but I didn't buy it directly.

Think of it as buying at arm's length, with expression of slight distaste.

(and yes, I know regretsy - isn't that the place that sells unicorn horns for your cat and things? Jesus wept...)

Etsy is international - I've bought from many sellers overseas. Some of our AT members have Etsy shops, for instance Chronata and Sulis, just two off the top of my head. :)

I assumed that Alea knows we can't generalize about quality (like, "Etsy cardstock is thus and so") but since there are relatively few self-published decks sold on Etsy, it is easy enough to talk about specific ones. I remember a couple years ago when that Steampunk tarot was all the rage here - people raved about the various cardstock options, including the above-mentioned pearlescent one that seemed to be the creme de la creme! :D

I've only bought one self-published deck via Etsy so far, the Art of Jordan majors. Unfortunately the artist seems to be taking an extended break, and as far as I know has no plans to make it a full deck at this time.

:) Over 1800 sales, somebody must like them. Seriously, try looking for something you'd actually use.
