Would You Continue To Read Tarot Even If It Aged You?

Would you continue to read tarot even if it physically aged you?

Of course - and I hope I do, because it means I'm alive... But in our society which places such emphasis on youthfulness, it's not any easy thing for a woman to see her body and face change. I try to stay healthy and delay it, but ultimately I know I will, I just hope to do so gracefully. Anything that would speed up that process, I would definitely stop doing.

I'm the same; physically ageing freaks me out and I'm in denial about growing old (in my mind I still think I'm 18). When I see middle aged people (who are actually my age) I forget that I'm the same age as them, and I think "Gee, they're old." :joke:

LOL too funny!!! I bet I will be the same when I'm middle aged - look down on other middle aged people!!

So - goddess - are you VERY ugly - since you read so much :D
Well, you can ask nisaba as she's seen a pic of me and might agree with you. According to her I'm "the devil in stilettoes." :joke:

I think not ! (Mind you, I didn't start to read till I was - over 50, I think; maybe even over 60. I was wondering why I was suddenly ageing so fast...)
Oh sheesh.. So you DO think it ages us!

My gynaecologist - a lovely man - once remarked while doing unspeakable things to bits of me, "Whatever happened to ageing gracefully ?" This was in reference to a mutual friend who was heavily into disguising her age - colouring her hair, makeup to suggest youth and so on. Don't get me wrong - she did it beautifully. But he felt very strongly that women look their best and most attractive when they honestly look like who they are, not who they think they OUGHT to look like.
Well that's nice that you've had pleasant experiences with your male gyno. I've only had 1 and only 1 appointment with a male gynecologist my whole life. I decided I would only go to women doctors after he asked me out on a date immediately following a "Well Woman" exam.

Wow. May one ask how old you are, cutiecutie ?

I am happy to say that that line of thinking has never crossed my path. I have and will continue to age as nature intended; I will NEVER have plastic surgery, and only coloured my hair very briefly because people would keep picking at it and saying "you have paint in your - oops sorry" !

The more people buy into the must look 16 until the day we are 70, the longer that silly state of affairs can persist. In my mind I know I am as old as I choose to be today. (well, sometimes age choose me - today I am about 150, but tomorrow I will be back to about 22. It's getting ready to travel that ages ME :D

@ goddess - I saw a female gynae exactly once. It was a horrible experience I would never wish to repeat, thanks very much. Details are not coming in this thread. I am sorry you hit a dud male.

And I was being (more than usually) silly about reading ageing me. No of course it doesn't. If it did people like Sulis (who is rather lovely looking and not 16 any more) would be crawling on the ground ancient !

I'd probably stop until I had some really noticeable winkles, then I'd figure, "What the hell?", and be right back at it.

I'm in my mid twenties but people often mistake me to look younger - my mom also looked younger than her age for a long time. I don't know that I will ever have plastic surgery. The women I know who have had it done just end up looking fluffy IMO. I will be coloring my hair though, at least with henna. I just don't see any reason to speed up my youth, but as you say people are just as old as they want to be.

Alcohol is a preservative .....

Most people are shocked when I tell them I am pushing 60! :bugeyed:

Nice and fun pic TB! I hope you are right about alcohol being a preservative. I pretty much bathe in Cabernet. ;)

LOL! I'll tell you....

So I'm home at my mom and dad's house on vacation trying to enjoy my down time when my mother tries to feed me some BS that divining ages us. :joke: I know she just wants me to put the cards down for awhile but I couldn't help it as my dad kept asking me questions! Well, it pissed me off kinda but the truth is, I can't help but wonder if we are receiving knowledge from the cards that it would normally take others normal amounts of time to receive. Are we speeding up the aging process by reading tarot or doing any other divination?

if anything, the stress that a s**t answer causes is the culprit for the aging!! and knowing is not always good, so I think we pay the price (a fair trade off)

Only the card holders understand the compulsive need we have for answers, lol.

Get your mum a deck and help her have a go! Mwah xxx

Interesting but no I don't think so, tarotbear. My mother is extremely controlling and critical of my looks. :( She had 6 of us who she tried to bring up as "perfectly" as she could so needless to say, that was difficult. God for bid any one of us gain weight or she'd come right out and tell you something about it and not in a nice way. This along with what she saw in a tarot reader as a child is causing her to want to control this part of me as well. I realize this is all because she grew up as a co-dependent, ya know due to her severe alcoholic father?

May I add that people like this aren't bad, they just have to find ways to feel in control when they couldn't be in control somewhere else. When I go home, I always feel I need to be preparing for a photo shoot instead of just going home and being myself. :(

This thread was very good for me. To see that not everyone feels this way about looks and aging especially when it comes to divining. Very comforting to say the least. :)

I find that interesting. I had a friend, a gal I grew up with, who by age 30 was doing everything in her power to seem 20ish. It didn't get any better over time and by the time she was in her 40s she was fighting aging tooth and nail.

I asked her if it wouldn't be in her best interest to just age gracefully. I was told in no uncertain terms that she was going to fight it all the way.

Now, after several back surgeries, she's permanently disabled. I no longer count her among my friends, but I've often wondered if she would choose the "age gracefully" concept knowing what was going to happen if she fought it.
