Now if you wish to use RWS system, you will need to view card VIII as Strength, and card XI as Justice. Which can be done especially with this deck. But be prepared RWS system doesn't fit all the cards.

I'm intrigued. I didn't realize it was Thoth-based. I have only had the deck a short while and haven't gone past looking at the cards. I also have the Tarot of Vampyres but found some of the images so off from RWS that I struggled a bit.

I'm going to work with both decks together a bit, reading the book, comparing the artwork in both decks, and journaling. Thanks for the suggestion, and for your posts on this deck. I'm excited to look into it more deeply!

I'm intrigued as well, I don't think the deck's creator has declared in any of the writings about the deck that it is Thoth based. I think this may be La Force's own ideas, seeing some Thothiness in some of the images. I am looking forward to seeing how she relates this deck to the Thoth.

I'm intrigued. I didn't realize it was Thoth-based.

Hang on, hang on. La Force has interpreted some cards - quite a large number of cards - from a Thoth perspective. This is how tarot rumours start. Before you know where you are, a deck is definitively Thoth based and there's no back-tracking and the "fact" spreads out like ripples on a pond.

First of all none of these cards were created in order to be a tarot deck. They were images which already existed and have been given a tarot "order" (let's say) or treatment. This deck reads beautifully but it would be quite a miracle or coincidence if these disparate images tied in with Frieda Harris' notes. These images already existed before they became tarot - I'm hard pushed to think that they were created in Ceccolli's imagination over many years thinking of tarot and Frieda Harris' notes (with a view to a deck). Some of them might "fit nicely" (as La Force says of The World). But images fit nicely to whatever we want them to. That's the beauty of tarot. These were single, pre-existing pieces of artwork which came into being before plans for a tarot deck did.

I personally - with all respect to La Force's posts - do not see this at all. I think it is proof, interesting proof - that you can make anything mean anything you want. I don't think we can say this deck is Thoth-based. None of what makes the Thoth substantial and unique and magical is present (and I love both decks for different reason and am not putting the Thoth on a pedestal here). There might be a few tie-ins here and there, with varying degrees of tenuousness, but there are with any decks. I could make the RWS Thoth-based i.e. I could argue that Pamela Colman Smith used the Thoth to create her deck if I wanted, surreal as that sounds.

The deck is not really RWS or Thoth. It's pretty much its own thing with a few cards occasionally nodding into more familiar territory. It's an interesting matching exercise - hypothesising I mean. I love this deck but the images and references feels very distinct to the Thoth. In the nicest way, I'm not really convinced.

I would hope that a review would suggest that one could see some images from a Thoth perspective but the deck certainly wasn't created as based on Thoth.

I am agreeing with you, once again, no where did I say that this deck was created based on the Thoth.

Here I have already began the review, I'll post this tid bit from what is in my review. I will make a new post to keep it seperate, from this post. This should stop any rumors from starting.
