Surprising Disappointments

WolfSpirit

I ordered it from BookDepository and I have always had excellent customer service with them - but I just didn't feel it was in any way their wrongdoing. But I could try I suppose...

No, it is probably not a mistake by Bookdepository, but they will have a contract with the publisher that faulty products can be returned and replaced :)

My most recent disappointment is the Fountain Tarot. Looked forward to it for so long after the Kickstarter campaign ended. Then when I finally go it was shocked at some of the features.

The coloring was very faint and almost washed out. The card stock is almost impossible to shuffle.

The creators put in a remarkable amount of work and I could see any of the cards being great prints individually just as deck I find it disappointing.

I am happy to have in my collection and will never trade it away but just know that it will be a collected deck and not a used deck.

Onyx.

I'm glad to read this because I was starting to feel a little alone. I find it strangely cold and impenetrable, although I too appreciate all the work that went into it.

Following up on my disappointment over Place's Sevenfold Mystery many pages back on this thread, I'll add the Alchemical 4th to that. I think Place's art just doesn't resonate with me. I dislike almost the whole suit of Cups mainly because of the vessels he chose to represent them with. And the omission of vulvas on the cards depicting nude women really bugs me. I know I'm in the minority here but c'est la vie.

Ostara Tarot

I love the art in the Ostara Tarot, but do not like the cardstock - and I am not overly picky about cardstock. But I haven't taken the deck out of its box again after my first look because I could see it chipping away. Thank goodness Fool's Dog has an app so I can look at the cards and admire them.

You know I saw Place's Angel deck and I thought the pips were lame, so I see where you're coming from, but I really would like to have the 7 Fold Mystery, so I'm surprised you think it's NG too. What a shocker.

Has anyone been disappointed with the Starchild now that it has been a little while since they've sold out?

I'm interested in others' thoughts now that version 2 is for pre-sale!

:)

The Morgan Greer tarot in a tin. I'm bummed that they added the copyright to the cards when they still aren't on the regular sized deck and the colors aren't as vibrant either. the only redeeming thing for me. is that the cards aren't glossy, but I was really disappointed by the whole package when I received it.

FLizarraga

The Mystic Faerie Tarot. It is a very well done, pretty little deck, with an excellent book by Barbara More that weaves a story for each suit. Yet it didn't do anything for me, surprisingly enough.

After having letting it go, I still wonder why. I mean, it's not just a pretty face, it's a rock-solid deck with substance, fairies (of the non-sugary kind, thank goodness), and, like I said, an excellent book. So my disappointment is not the deck per se, but my lack of response to it, if that makes sense.

Flizzy, if it means anything--i had the exact same experience with that deck
a couple of years ago...

Yet gregory swears by it, and I can see why. I LOVED the scans --it's probably the most beautiful of the Art Nouveau inspired decks-- and yet couldn't really connect with it.... :(
