3 of Swords as a postive?

So I'm doing a reading for a possible relationship with an acquaintance of mine and for their positive influence on the relationship it was the 3oS. This is quite confusing to me considering I feel the 3oS is a very 'negative' card involving harsh words or thoughts. Maybe it's saying that it might make me realize harsh truths? I would love to hear everyone's thoughts.

It would help if you told us what deck you used. But as "mean" as this may sound, 3 of Swords may be pointing to the fact that he is coming out of bad relationships (or has a sad baggage of them) and needs reassurance, comfort and to be loved again. This position of vulnerability may make it easier for you to approach him. Also, if he had bad experiences in the past, he will be more careful not to hurt you...

I would agree with your "harsh truth" sentiment.

The 3 of Swords could be a painful revelation that can only help you grow, develop, mature and learn a valuable lesson.

I suspect this acquaintance of yours may end up revealing something to you in the future that you may not want to hear or know, but as they always say, "the truth will set you free."

I've always thought of this 3 as "hurt to heal" so a "harsh truth" is one way to do that. This person could also bring up some old tender spots in your psyche that need to be addressed in order to move on/grow.

Is your friend in another relationship? It could be the courage to break something off with someone else.

In general, I think a positive of this card is "courage". It could be "tough love" -- the kind of pain that is soothed with honesty and truth.

It could be that this person will simply behave honestly, from the heart, and won't lie to you.

3S as a " positive influence on the relationship" says to me that this person will cut through all the BS, getting to the heart of the matter. You will always know where you stand with this person and he won't stop until he knows where he stands with you. The positive influence is to make the relationship an honest one in every sense of the word.

this meaning is also possible - Don´t play with the fire - why you´ve started thinking about more = 30S as warning = use your brain and find out if there is an old pattern to stage, that there should be more with someone - he is just an acquaintance
