Attention, edgers, gilders, and blingers: what are your tools of choice?

Lovely! Thanks for your input. :) I bought the Brilliance dew drops set and I'm looking forward to experimenting!

Was just wondering if anyone had used Tsukineko Brilliance in Moonlight White for edging.

Actually bought this to stamp snowflakes on my Christmas wrapping paper but it's too sheer for the job so considering using it for a kiss of shimmer on the edges of my Baba Alice Tarot.

Also reminded me of peeps asking about something to 'clean up' the edges of a slightly grubby, white edged deck. Wondered if this might do the trick.

I think it might. It's on my to-do list... which keeps growing every day. :p

I'm interested in gilding a couple of my decks with the Tsukineko Brilliance inkpads. I'm worried that shuffling will rub the metallic stuff off. Can anybody give me their experience on how their DIY gilding held up to normal use?

The first deck I tried the Brilliance metallic pads was my trusty, trimmed Golden Tarot (Kat Black's). That deck has seen a LOT of action since then, because it's almost always the one I use for others and always the one I use for myself when I want real clarity. And I riffle shuffle. Aggressively.

The cardstock has become a lot softer, but the edges are holding incredibly well --no chipping, no tarnishing, and just the tiniest bit of fading.

IMHO, all edged decks should be left to dry overnight. No matter how good the ink or the pigment is, or how fast it dries, it needs time to settle.

Thanks for your replies! I'm feeling less nervous about it now. :)

I tested the Brilliance on an extra card in the deck I'm planning to gild. It looks nice, but now I have a different question. Do your gilded edges feel rougher? Like, gritty? The card I gilded with the Brilliance feels somewhat gritty on the edges now. Not necessarily a dealbreaker, but would like to know beforehand nevertheless!

Hmmm, don't think I can be help much on that one, as (with the exception of the Animism which came rough anyway) I've always gilded decks I've trimmed. They're a little rougher once I've trimmed them so the gilding actually smooths the edges out some.

Don't ask how long I spent deciding whether to spell it smooths or smoothes... it'll only depress you :D

Scarlet Woodland, your time spent deciding was worth it. You chose the correct option. Love from your friendly spelling nazi :).

I hate to disagree, but it is spelled 'smooches.'

Seriously speaking, I have the same experience than Scarlet has: for me, edging or gilding a deck usually smoothes raw edges. But some people post that it changes the feeling of the edges completely one way or the other, so I guess it would depend on how sensitive your fingertips are.

Smooths. Smoothes. Smooches. Smoozes. Now I'm confused.... :bugeyed:

I'm undecided on edging my Deviant Moon borderless black or gold.

Any strong opinions?

Which most appeals to you? You should edge your Deviant Moon in whichever most speaks to your aesthetic self :).

I have never gilded edges. I either use Black Magic Marker or Tim Holtz ink pads.

I'm on the fence.

There is always the coin toss, G6 ;-)

I'm sure whatever you decide, it will be grand. Either sounds lovely.
