The English Magic Tarot

Barleywine

So just an update I got my cards from Amazon today brand new factory sealed and the top two cards were bent and the Magician card had a strange crease.

The cards feel really cheap compared to my other decks. I doubt they would hold up for long and seem like they'd be prone to tearing. I thought I would like the colored borders for the suits which I do but for me they are distractingly big. The artwork also just isn't grabbing me. Like Decan says it maybe because it differs from what I am use to or maybe there's just too much detail for me which some may enjoy. Anyway I'm opting to return them and save up for The Wild Unknown instead.

Thank you! I had heard about bent and creased cards before, and wanted to find out if it's still happening. The deck you got could have been from pre-existing stock, I suppose. Since I'm only paying a bit over $4 USD for a new deck, I'm not going to be too fussy about them.

Amazon will replace them if necessary. I'm opting for a replacement because I actually kind of like the book and the cards msy grow on me. The bent cards I could have lived with but the Magician is very creased. Let us know how yours arrive. Hopefully I have better luck with the next lot.

I was wondering why this deck was selling for so cheap on Amazon. I bet there's a bunch of irregular decks that they're trying to unload.

Got mine yesterday and I'm unboxing it later today... here's hoping for intact cards, but for under $5 I probably won't complain unless it's bad.

I haven't fully looked through the deck but I do see that the borders on my $5 copy are very uneven and the cardstock is a hair away from just being paper. I figured something was up when I saw the deck being sold for so cheap but I bought it to add to my collection, not necessarily to use. I'll edit and update when I look through the rest of the deck.

Just posted a review video!

Some cardstock issues, ridiculous borders balanced with great artwork and a nice book. More than worth the $5 and no bent cards :3

I really did love the book. Provides some good history and some fun ideas for reading the cards. Worth the $5 right there.

My cards are fine - nothing irregular. Wasted on me though because I don't particularly like the deck. I'd happily have irregular borders sitting unused on my bookshelf :D

Just not the right artwork for the theme. Just so not right... And I'm no even a luddite. But it's like depicting the history of Marie Antoinette's dresses in graffiti or something. just not the right medium... I can't make that mental leap.

Got it out again last week to try again - but just non-stop jarring. Something rich and intricate told sketchily - referring to the 17th Century with Pop Art. Yikes. Just no...

It's just that someone said "great art" and I winced.

Hey man, art and the enjoyment of it is subjective. I happen to like comic book style graphics. Like the great Yukon Cornelius once said "You eat what you like, and I'll eat what I like" :3
