* not reading these posts until I get my deck in the mail *

I just ordered mine today! I don't do preorders and have waited a long time for this Friday.

Edited to add, that this was one of those decks were I saw some of the cards ahead of time, but did my best to remove myself from reading updates about it. I want to be surprised. See, I have this thing for black and white and round decks. Strong decks. There's a boldness about this one that I'm drawn to.

Gimme, gimme now! Excitement is building.

Mine is in the post. As some folks here know I specialise in round decks - my Curvaceous Collection - and this one has been bookmarked for ages. Glad to soon be seeing it, sure I'm going to love it, thank you.

He's not kidding, either. Very large cards. I have to swirl them on the floor to shuffle. But at least I don't have to squint to see all the details. :)

I've been waiting for this deck for years, and now I am so disappointed - what ever persuaded the publishers or the creator to make it so HUGE! Seriously, people said "large cards" and I thought, I'm alright, I've got large hands for a woman, and I'm used to round decks. But no, these are 5 5/8ths inches in diameter, and I can't get my hands around them.
(ETA - It's also as thick as a brick!)
And the book - the book is a tiny 2 1/2 inches high and 5 1/2 inches wide!

The artwork is beautiful, but it would have been just as wonderful at 4 1/2 inches, truly. And then the deck would have been usable, hand over hand shuffle - you could have taken it and used it anywhere, like I do with my others. But this will now languish on a shelf, because it won't travel for a walk in the woods, a trip on the train, anywhere where you don't have nice clean floor of big table with cloth on to swirl them round.

I am so sorry - I am a champion of circular decks as folks here who know will tell you - but this is too big to be used.
And I haven't figured out how to trim a round deck, before anyone mentions it - if you've got a cutting machine that will handle it let me know - you could take 3/4 inch off easy.

So sorry - Pathwalker (the one with the whole Curvaceous Collection thing going on)

PathWalker, I feared it being overly large with that coaster-like plastic lamination. I don't have my copy yet (is in transit), but I fear that my sentiments will share yours.

And I said I wouldn't read any of these posts until I got my deck.

See, I'm a trimmer. I love trimming, distressing/aging, gilt edging my decks. But circular ones? How on...

I'm going to post a thread in Talking Tarot about attempting to trim a circular deck. I have a feeling I'll want to hack my Gorgon's too make it a more manageable size, like the Songs of a Journey Home mini, the perfect sized circular deck.

ETA: I bumped this thread: trimming round decks :)

My deck came today.

A expected, the artwork is stunning. I'm also pleased with the card stock, despite the thickness. Instead of the usual, coaster-like coating, the cards have lamination, but are flippy. However...

They are so enormous, so huge, they are impossible to shuffle. I agree with PathWalker about the size. This deck would have been fine at 4 1/2 or even 4 inches.

This isn't a criticism, but since I work in publishing, I'm aware of the processes behind staging, developing, and delivering a final product. Somewhere along the line, the size of the cards must have been part of the conversation between artist and publisher, and I wonder why these were made so large? The size makes them an art deck, not a reading deck. And that's a shame. On the plus side, I like the packaging, presentation, and the substantial LWB/booklet.

I really love the imagery though. It's gorgeous.

Bummer.

PathWalker, I don't think I'll trim this one unless I trim it down even further than the border and find a way to write the card numbers and suits, or an abbreviation of sorts. I'm undecided.

ETA: Great news, I can riffle shuffle it sideways on a table easily :D. Hooray!

Although a bit large to carry all of the time, if I can shuffle it with no problems, this will make me try this one out soon [off to her ISG reading]. I need to buy some fanning powder though, which I've been meaning to buy for other decks too.

I can't stress how happy I am that I found a way to shuffle this. Yes!

How else is everyone else doing? What's your method?
