Court cards for the swords

Hi!
Well, no pics so far, but when Simone pointed me to the thread, I immediately thought about something Arabic. I have choosen the suit of Swords because I associate early Islam with both the figurative meaning of sharp and keen intellect and the literal meaning of actual swords. I also prefer Rachel Pollack's idea of the court cards, with Place, Knower, Gift and Speaker of a suit.
So here's my take:

Place (Page) of Swords: The Al-Azhar Islamic university in Cairo Egypt. First islamic university, and note the hilt-like top of the left minaret. picture article

Knower (Knight) of Swords: Salah ad-Din Jusuf ibn Ajub, also known as Saladin. picture article

Gift (Queen) of Swords: Khadija (Arabic: خديجه ) was the first wife of the Prophet Muhammad. Originally a follower of Judaism, according to traditions she became the first female convert to Islam, the new religion Muhammad had begun to preach. She supported him from the very beginning, enabeling him to follow his visions. She continued to support him throughout his mission to spread Islam and he took no other wife until after her death out of love for her. article. Sorry, no pic found so far.

Speaker (King) of Swords is of course Muhammed: Well, he doesn't need an introduction, I think. picture article

Simone I love your 2 of wands! The art style is wonderful!
We visited Japan a few years back, and were at a company dinner where they had the drummers for entertainment. They invited people to come up and perform with them. My husband got up and really started to rock with the drums....they promptly removed his sticks ::giggle::

OK, I reposted the image in the original post until it worked, my graphics program is having issues, grrr.... Have to reload the program again.

I love the submissions so far! I love that people are submitting!

Simone: I love the drummer! Taiko drumming is one of my favorite things! So resonate, so powerful and perfect for the creative vibrations of the Wand suit!


AlexTM: Wicopeddia is having bandwidth issues, but I managed to see one of the images. The concept of Ancient mid-east philosophers represting the air aspect of intellect is fantasic. And the image I saw was beautiful. I'll have to check later and see the rest of them.

Helvetica: You can use MS PAint to some extent but not for terribly complicated collaging... I would recommend Glue and scizzors then borrowing a camera for the five minutes to download, I don't know if thats an option for you but I really want to see what you would submit... so maybe we can work something else out if that won't do.

Whoops, sorry Simone....I guess my intuition linked it to Two of wands because of the two sticks...but does make wonderful sense as the Page of Wands. He's still cool :)

Page of Wands like Taiko, is international...

...lots of Taiko organizations have a mixture of Asian and others who just like doing such things. I've heard of friends and relatives kids who just enjoy it at their local cultural heritage or other Asian-Pacific community centers in the States.

There's a commercial that has blurry shots of a female taiko group but they seem to be wearing modern red evening wear or costumes--not certain, but in celebrations, I've usually seen the taiko drummers wearing the hapi-style loose jackets or tee-shirts. Probably the community settings....
