Pre-RWS Reproductions

McFaire

Hi there fellow enablers --

I'm starting to collect reproductions (I know, a $lipery $lope). I really like scenic pips, but many of the ancient decks seem to have the non-scenic pips.

I had thought that scenic pips were newer, as in RWS-era, but yesterday I discovered that was incorrect (http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=198673). I learned that scenic pips go back to the Sola Busca of the 15th century.

WOW. What a riveting deck.

So now I'd like to learn about pre-RWS reproductions with scenic pips.

I'll try to work some OT this week to cover your suggestions!

Thank you.

I Naibi di Giovanni Vacchetta is another one. Lo Scarabeo released a colored reprint as Tarot of the Master.

There was an earlier colored version released by Il Meneghello.

I have an even earlier uncolored reproduction by Solleone. There also used to be a site where you could print out all the cards, but I no longer have that link. Maybe someone else can provide it, if it's still around.

If you can get hold of the II Meneghello Vachetta, it really is a special deck. It comes in a handmade box, sealed with sealing wax. The cardstock isn't laminated. It feels like a really old deck. It would be a nice one to collect. I got mine by chance, I thought I was ordering The Tarot of the Master by LoS so when this one came, I was taken with the whole look and feel of it. I only have one other special reproduction deck and that is the Tarocco Soprafino F Gumppenberg (IL Meneghello). That's a nice Soprafino.

Thanks for posting. Do you mean you bought it on auction, expecting the LoS Vachetta (Masters), but instead you received Il Meneghello Vachetta? That's interesting. Both very beautiful!

I think I ordered from Alida, but it was years ago. It must have been cheaper then because I don't remember it costing more than the other decks I was buying at the time. I do remember being stunned when I opened the package and found the handmade box, unlaminated square cut cards and the number card ( I got deck 366) obviously not the LoS. I've used it a couple of times but it feels to special to be used. I did eventually get the Tarot of the Master but not until earlier on in this year. :)
