A Cheap and Surprising Treat

ladybird

huh?! no 6's! I need to look at mine again. I thought it was missing 8,9,10. I'll check it out and get back soon.

eta: yup, mine do have the 6's and do not have 8, 9 nor 10. It also has the 1's in addition to the aces like I said earlier in the thread.

It was Emmsma who used two decks to complete the Dollar store tarot.

Here's that link with her extra cards from earlier in the thread.

I had an idea that could help us out if Emmsma is willing. (No pressure, Emmsma!:)) I thought that if she wanted to scan the cards and post them here, then all we would have to do is print, cut and then paste them to the extra placement cards that came with our decks. It may seem weird but I really would like to use this deck.

I've PMed her with fingers crossed. :)

Emmsma replied so quickly! She already said she would do it in a week or so!! :)

Be on the lookout, ATers.

emmsma scanned and emailed me her images of the missing cards that she created to complete her Dollar Store tarot.

I printed them out, trimmed, then pasted them onto those extra silly placement cards (and on the 4 ones!) I now have a complete Dollar Store "Tarot Cards" too! It's so satisfying! I've been itching to use this deck and now I can.

I had to go over the corners and edges of the cards (where my cuts were imperfect) with black sharpie. I ended up going a little crazy and coloring over the entire edge turning the cardboard-colored edge black! I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

Thanks emmsma, for doing the extra work to scan these for me!!!

eta: I also ended up writing with gold permanent marker on the 8s and 9s to tell them apart more quickly without having to count them. I left the tens alone. It's working out rather well!

I just found the new big pink and blue version too. They're now down to $9.99US on the publisher's web site: http://www.fantasmamagic.com/proddetail.php?prod=8102
They're called the WishCraft Mystical Tarot. They're obviously for young girls; I think I was still in grade school when I got my OUIJA board, which BTW I still have. ;c} I didn't get my first tarot deck until high school...

I've had the original Dollar Tree deck since November 2012. I paid $5.01 for them on eBay, where they were called the Greenbrier Tarot. That made sense since they're distributed by Greenbrier Inc. which has since changed its name to Dollar Tree Inc. Their HQ is the next city over from me in Chesapeake, VA.

I'd say they did a special order from Fantasma Toys for custom packaging and the original purchase probably went to existing stores. DT has bought out a lot of other dollar stores since then and those "new" stores probably didn't get any of the cards, which would explain the uneven distribution over the years.

I guess they took out the 8's and 9's to make room for the white "spread" cards, but that wasn't really necessary since they include the large sheet with the 6-pointed star layout. My deck didn't come with a LWB; it was sold as used on eBay. I did kick myself when I made the connection with 'Dollar' Tree after the fact. I also foolishly passed up the one deck I saw in a store since then because I "already have mine."

I want to get a second deck to try again on the 8's and 9's. I've been to all of the DT's here in Tidewater the past few weeks and there aren't any left. Some of the store managers are so new they don't even remember seeing them. I called the HQ to see if there are any sitting in a corner of their warehouse, but I was told they were all sent out long ago.

I scanned all of the images last year for use in my World of Tarot software. I did some creative editing on the 1's to make 8's, 9's and 10's with single pips. That works well in WOT, but I still had my handicapped physical deck.

I tried to print my new digital versions right on the white cards but the surface is too slick and the images came out very pale with my laser printer. Inkjet probably would have wiped right off. I don't mind using them for myself, although the lightness does tend to give them more emphasis when they appear in a spread. I may try printing them on labels to cover over my first attempts. A second deck would give me some extra cards if I screw it up.

Last time I tried a DIY job was with Lisa Parsons' Vortex Tarot. I printed her images on clear decal sheets, then cut them and hand-placed the sticky little buggers on all 78 US Games blank cards. Sheesh, I get a headache just thinking about that!

If anyone is interested in trying the labels, I can email the 12 images to you. Not sure when I'll get a ROUNDTUIT, myself.

I started working at a Dollar General about a month ago and just remembered this thread! I checked, we don't have any tarot decks, but I'll let everyone know if that changes!
